Need a vehicle quick and someone down the road is selling a 2005 sportage 2l diesel. I was hoping to get a little van but time is not on my side at the mo. Any thoughts on them? I knew the clutch and dual mass fly wheel have been done so shouldnt need to worry about that for a while.. Presuming bike will fit in the back easily enough?

My sister had one 2005-2010 from New.

No real issues.

A lot smaller inside than the outside dimensions suggest.

PROS:  It will probably keep working for ever

CONS: You'll want to commit suicide every time you see it or have to drive it

CONS: You’ll want to commit suicide every time you see it or have to drive it

Yeah, well, coming from someone whose username is maxtorque, I’d kind of expect a comment like that, but back here in the real world of every day concerns, the Sportage is a perfectly adequate vehicle, less space in the back than an estate, goes pretty well, comfy, reliable, (there’s that 7-year warranty), not bad styling-wise, and has the attributes that make crossover SUV’s so popular, it’s dead easy to get in and out of without needing a helping hand hauling yourself out of a low-slung seating position. It’s one of a number of similar cars I’m looking at replacing my Octavia with in the not too distant future, the others being the Hyundai ix35 or Tucson, Vauxhall Mokka, Mazda CX-3 or 5, Renault Captur or Kadjar, or Nissan Qashqai..

I’ve driven all of them, mostly over a couple of hundred miles or so, and none are bad vehicles, it’s down to personal preferences  looks, comfort and size-wise that makes choosing a bit tricky. If the car is the right price, then go for it. You might need to take a front wheel off, but that’s probably true of many hatchbacks, my Octy can take a bike with wheels on, but saddle pushed right down, but it is quite a big car.
