Will probably run it until it dies, so depreciation is not a massive concern.

good plan. We are considering a new Hyundai ix20 - cheap to run, funky, 5 yr warranty.
As long as you are going to keep it I don't think depreciation really comes into it. A 5/7 yr old car 'normal' car ain't worth much

I would look at it like disposable transport.

Any problems fixed for 7 years under warranty - (Is there a mileage threshold?)

If you aren't concerned about badge snobbery and performance, why not get one?

Just making the depreciation point incase you want to shift it in 3 years. I will be going down a similar route next time.

My sister has one...happy except fuel consumption isn't great. 30mpg but this is gonna be checked by the dealership...and it's tough on comfort if you drive a distance...

I've had one for just over a year now - Soul 2 diesel as per your first post. I've been really pleased with, comfortable to drive, reasonably economic - I get around 50 mpg, cheapish insurance and tax. Looks kinda funky, so a sensible car without looking boring and not many of them about so easy to find in the car park.
Downsides would probably just be a slightly small boot (but not tiny), the rear seat back just folds forward so you don't get a flat load space, it's a bit of a faff to take out the parcel shelf (you have to unscrew a couple of thumbscrews) and there's a 40kg limit on the roof when using roof bars.
But overall I'd recommend it though I do intend to run it for at least 7-10 years so hopefully depreciation.wont really matter.

Thanks Sheriff. I hadn't clocked the roof load issue. The small boot is also a slight concern, but I reckon it will probably help us pack less stuff!
Hopefully going for a longer tes drive in the week - all good so far though.
