Hi folks, the front door has developed sudden problem. Unlock the door open it but can’t remove the key with out relocking the now open door. Then put the key in the other side unlock the door, close and then relock it.
A pain.
It happened before and the landlord had some effortless fix, but he’s on his holidays for another fortnight. Any of you guys got any ideas on how to reset it? It seems to happen every couple of years.
What kind of lock is it?
*predicts Euro profile cylinder change in the near future
What kind of lock is it?
The kind you should be squirting some GT85 into.
I thought locks need graphite rather than GT85.

I don’t know. What should I look for?
Does the bit where the key goes look like this?

I’ll let you know when I get back to the house.

Not if you rebrand it as a specialist product like these chancers!
Just do it, it'll be reet.
Try the GT85 first. Most likely just a sticky tumbler.
Not just on the lock but also on the door closing mechanism if it's a UPVC door.
If it is a Euro Cylinder, you can change them in about a minute, usually a single screw on the edge of the door holds them in place and new barrels are less than £20.
Take the old one out and take it to an ironmonger so that they can match the size.
Fixed it. It was like the lock barrel had got out of phase with something, so I put a key in both side of the door and twiddled things and now its all OK.

I was just about to tell you to put a key in each side and turn one of them against the other.
Unfortunately, if it's happened once it'll happen again (do you leave your keys in the back of the door?), so best get the lock cylinder changed. If you end up doing it yourself you'll need to measure the existing cylinder - (Clicky) It is a "euro" cylinder lock, btw.
If you do, do not buy another Euro-cylinder lock. They're beyond shit, you can break into them in seconds. This is what you need (and was the cheapest price I could find by a long way when I bought one a few months ago):

Those are still Euro profile cylinders. They’re just more robust ones.
I shall pass all your wisdom on to my landlord. As the house will up for sale in a few months I suspect I know his response...
Thanks for the input folks.
