I know it's a silly question but has anyone seen any kettlebells in stock anywhere?

12 and 16kg ideally.

I haven't checked lately but back in Spring last year when there was a run on them places like Wiggle and Chain Reaction were still stocking them when others had run out

Edit to say I also got a 12.5kg DB from this place a few weeks ago:

@captainclunkz

Yeah that looks mega, not sure I can spend that much on something that I will probably just use to decorate my garage 🙂

Yeah, 2 sets in my garage that mrs Lunge bought. Never used. On the upside, they weigh my turbo down nicely.

Put a wanted ad on faceboak marketplace, loads of folk will have them and not use them, but not necessarily have em up for sale.

Couple of sizes available for click and collect if you have one nearby at Decathlon

I got the decathlon 8kg ones, good quality and rubber base so they don't chip your tiles. Only had them a month I m upgrading to 10kg.

Aldi ones are plastic so big and only 4-8kg.

Off topic slightly but I am always quite surprised how expensive dumbells and kettlebells seem to be

I sold a set on FB, before Covid, and they were the most popular thing I've ever sold. Had about 30 people respond over each one!

They rapidly rise in price as they get heavier, I suspect the shipping cost gets quite large when you're over 30kg per item.

Saw some in the middle at Lidl over the weekend.
Costco also had them last week!

What weight Kettlebell would you recommend to a newby who wants to increase strength for MTB?

Missus got a couple from lidl saturday. We were walking the dogs and she wanted me to carry them home (kettlebells not the dogs). P'ah.

Does depend on the individual.

The CrossFit 'RX' Kettlebell for swings etc is 24 kg for men, but that's a bit heavy for overhead presses etc. The main thing I use KBs for is swings and I mainly do them at 24kg if I'm cycling a lot.

I'd probably start at 16 kg and see how you get on.

As long as he doesn't want to do bicep curls with them!

Lidl had some last week for £7 each

But scalpers hoovered up the lot & they're now on ebay for £20-30 🙄

I bought some, British made ones, from East Coast Castings . Very happy with them, but to be fair they are just a lump of cast iron which you throw about.
They are unpainted so if you dont want them to go rusty , which they will as soon as sweat touches them, clear coat or paint them.
Might not be to everyones taste but I'd rather pay the going rate and support British jobs than support foreign jobs with the same cash.

@geomickb,
They sell them through ebay store, seller is chris10370.
I bought two 28kg bells for less than £150 from memory, cant remember if that included postage , dont think so.
Got used plenty during first shutdown, then the second one, then everyday in the gym, and now again.
Kept me sane, so earned their keep.

Middle of Lidl has some but they're only dinky - 4 & 6kg. No good for the massive wang swinging Arnies on here 😆
(But pricewise, they are only a fiver. Which puts £150 into some kind of perspective, regardless of the weight)

Dont buy it then. Also unlikely a Commercial gym branded decent 16kg or 20kg kettlebell has ever been for sale for 30 quid.

Original post was that you couldn't find any for sale. I found you some.

No kettlebells for you this lockdown then

Mid 40’s and never lifted weights, kids and manual labour aside, so what would people suggest to improve upper body - gut, tits, back and arms?

@geomickb - Avoid shiny chrome or knurled handle kettlebells at all costs, they are truly the work of the devil.

Slick chrome means you launch the kettlebells out of your hand too easily and the knurling is terrific at giving horrifically blistered hands...

These are normally decent kit, dispatching from the 25th of Jan. A 16kg as a starter isn’t bad if you have done weights before.

I bought a 4 & 8 from bulldog gear, and lucky enough to get a matching 16kg off FB with a bulldog weighted vest for the the bargain sum of £80 😃

They appear to be good quality imo

This. You will either launch it or skin your palms once you know what you’re doing. This is why competition kettlebells are a different shape & bare metal on the handles.

We have a collection of Wolverson competition ones, from a gym closing down. They were significantly cheaper pre covid than they seem to be now. They are well battered and used but no worse than the ones in the actual gym we used to go to.

Looks like I'm waiting until Decathlon or Argos ones are back in stock. Prices have increased significantly in covid times.

I have a 20kg and have loaned a 10kg so will make do with them.

They vary in price and quality quite a bit. Competition kettlebells are all the same size, regardless of weight, which are what most decent gyms will have. I sold all my cheapo one and bought a competition set as I prefer how they feel.

They're also colour coded so you can go to any gym and know the weight just from the colour (pretty much all makes follow the same scheme).

I in the other hand, sold my comp bells and bought iron ones. I found comp ones too big to do double swings. Couldn’t get my legs far enough apart.
I now have a 6kg, two 16kg, a 20kg and two 24kgs.
What I have found though is buying the same bells from the same manufacturers does not mean you get the same quality. I tried to buy a matching 16 to one I already had and the handle is significantly worse. Almost like they branded anything they could get during lockdown.

Seen these online earlier. Uk made too.
https://www.originalkettlebell.com/
No experience of using them so not a recommendation, but they seem to have addressed some problems i find with other kettlebells I have used.

110 quid for a 24kg though.

Just put a swap ad up on FB marketplace, as I have two 12kgs, see if anyone wants to downgrade!

PSA - Amazon

Always worth having a look as their AmazonBasics ones are sport on, dirt cheap (20kg for £40), but they do go really quickly! They have a variety of weights come and go almost daily.

You have to get them when you can, since last November I have purchased, 8, 16, 24, 32 and currently have a 40kg one on order, from 4 different suppliers. No bargains but also avoiding some who are price gouging. I am in Germany so my list would probably be no good for you.

I just ordered 2 x 6kg decathlon, coming in 3 days. That 40kg above must be a monster, I wouldn't even want to lift a 20kg overhead in case I dropped it.

Wonder how many kb workouts result in a+e visits.

Might not be big enough for the Dwayne Johnsons of this thread but I thought was a good deal

Costco also had them last week!

Don't bother, I bought some, the smooth plastic is incredibly slippy with even the slightest trace of sweat on your hands and the handle of the 20kg is too big to grip properly. Lesson learned, buy from somewhere that specialises in gym equipment and not a discount warehouse

I'd either strip off the plastic coating or wrap zinc oxide tape around it to provide some friction.

Just gone for a 16kg from https://www.beyondrxgear.com/

Graduating up from the 8kg Aldi plastic one we’ve had for a few years. I was starting to get frustrated at the lack of resistance at home vs in the CrossFit gym, but can’t bear the cost (and don’t have the space) for a barbell, plates etc.

I've recently bought a set of resistance bands - not forced myself to use them yet though

I don’t have room for a rowing machine, unfortunately.

Resistance bands look like a good option.

I’ve dug my wife’s unused rubber dumbbell things out the wardrobe. They don’t weigh much but offers some resistance. I might try a 5k with them but doubt I’d make it that far.

I bought one 2nd hand, didn't realise quite how large they actually are. They look ok in a large gym, but are bloody massive in a small house. Sold it to my local CF box.

Rowing machine has been invaluable this winter- I’m it a fan of the turbo, and having a big enough man-shed with the rower in has been my escape.

Maybe the novelty of being a new sport, and feeling like a better full body workout are the keys to maintaining interest.

For me it’s the noise of the rower- never noticed it in the gym, but in the shed with a fan on I need my headphones turned up pretty loud.

I find the rowing machine very boring, I have a full set of the concept 2 ergs, and do an ergathlon 2 or 3 times a week, but just rowing alone, 10 mins is about my maximal attention effort.

That's the thing as well when people recommend bands or trx, does anyone really keep up consistent training with them 2 or 3 times a week for years? I guess I have been really lucky to now build up a really good home gym setup over the past couple of years. Now when I start getting bored I can change my training to "re-invigorate" my motivation.

Horses for courses of course, but I think you need to find a type of training you enjoy and are going to be motivated to continue doing over years. If you have the space, whether you start with just some kettlebells or a squat rack and barbell. As you progress, every 3 months or so you can add/buy something new to change it up.

A bit of a budget PSA: Home Bargains have kettlebells in stock. My local has 4, 6 and 8KG available. They are moulded plastic by the looks of them but they are very cheap.

Pretty sure I saw some of the same ones as Costco were selling in The Range (Gateshead) at the weekend, as I've already said above I have some and wouldn't recommend them due to them being slippy moulded plastic and I find the 20kg (it's a lot BIGGER than the 10kg, not just heavier) is impossible to grip comfortably as the handle is too big

Waterrowers store vertically so don't take that much footprint up

Are those waterrowers any good then? I’m looking for something to save me runn8ng as I seem to have plantar fasciitis which is not too bad at the mo but can be a pain and don’t want to make it worse. I was enjoying running and cycling is fine but you just don’t get out as much in the winter with kids/ work/ weather/ dark etc. Got a bit of space in a dining room I’m using for home office etc so that could work.

Yes, not perfect but quite good. There is another thread that has a few people who have them.
