Our kettle is on its last legs so I'm on the hunt for a new one.
Key criteria are:
1. Electric
2. Its made of metal (both exterior and interior - our current one is made of plastic and it took ages for it to lose the plasticy taste)
3. Boils fast
Ta in advance.
Beware Metal Kettles - we have a open plan living area, my wife bought one of those ridiculous Dualit kettles, it was incredibly noisy such that you had to turn the TV up quite high to hear your programme while it was boiling. She replaced it a year ago and despite my complaints about the noise bought another ridiculous metal designer kettle which the man in John Lewis said was quiet - is it hell.
Which Dualit Kettle was it? It would appear there are a couple of designs.
We have a Dualit toaster so a matching kettle was high on the list until you brought up the noise issue.
I had a matching Dualit toaster and kettle. The toaster is great, but the kettle lasted a couple of years and then started to leak from the bottom and it was damn noisy when we lived in a open plan flat.
Replaced it with the Alessi singing bird one, but as that's not electric I take it you wouldn't be interested?
Tell me more about the Alessi.
We avoided stove top kettles in the past as we used to have an electric hob which took ages to warm up. Also our last stove top kettle was a Le Cruset one which although billed as a whistling kettle failed to produce a note when boiling.
I can't remember but I think the noise is a function of the element being under a metal plate but by no means sure.
Had a quick look at the John Lewis site and they do not seem to have the same model as it has probably been updated. However, we have the same problem with our Magimix one which is supposedly quiet and I have just seen how much it cost 😯
