Awesome film. I once knew a guy who looked, acted, sounded and even dressed like Oddball, and had even seen the film; but ne never made the connection for film-themed fancy dress night. Missed opportunity of a lifetime, still gutted.

A great film indeed. I love that era of WW2 films anyway.

Great film, surprised Hollywood hasn't bastardised a remake.

About the only thing Three Kings has got in common as far as I can remeber is they are in the military and stealing gold. Other than that nothing like Kellys Heroes.

OP are most of your colleagues younger than you?

There is a point in the ageing process when all the cultural references that you took for granted cease to be relevant, this may have been that moment. If it was, welcome to obscurity.

I was 3 when it came out in 1970 and it's still a great film so.....

I saw 'Oddball' in Ramsbottoms war weekend last year walking round wearing his tank commander hat and goggles.

I 'woofed' at him.

My apprentice at work didn't know who Han Solo is.......

It's probably on the list once they finish with Dad's Army.

Yes I am older than most here 🙁
The picture is from the Victory Show at Cosby, I did ask them if anyone had nicked the speakers of the tank.

Love Kellys Heroes, seems to pop up on ITV occasionally, tho usually late and finishes well after midnight for some reason. Yet to spot it this year tho.

Age should be irrelevant. When I was growing up in the eighties, I was fed a diet of laurel and hardy, the marx brothers, abbot and costello etc by my family. All from well before my time.

A friend of mine told me that Oddballs character was based on a German tank ace called Kurt Knispel, who sounds like quite an interesting bloke...

Sat and watched this with my two boys (4 and 5) a couple of weeks ago, they absolutely loved it. We're working our way through all the old war films and classic westerns.

Off on a slight tangent, when I used to play cricket, six of our players had (at different times) one night stands with a young lady whose name happened to be Kelly.

They were dubbed "Kelly's Heroes aka The Dirty Half Dozen".

I can watch that film every time it is on. Love it, especially Oddball!

I've heard of it, never seen thought, thought it was a TV series.

Your colleagues probably also don't know what Little House On The Prairie and Bonanza are...or Blankety Blank or Noel Edmonds House Party either...lucky them!

I can't comprehend the bravery of those men never mind who's side they were on, I think the only thing you can take from this period of history is that the sheer desperation to survive took over!

3 Kings is a decent film, but it's not a remake of Kelly's Heroes.

Oddball is a 60's hippy.....in 1944.
Also Donald Sutherland had meningitis whilst filming....which explains a lot.
.
Not a literal remake,no...Army,American,Stealing,War.Homage maybe?

One of my favourite films, seen many times. Oddball is a little 'out of time though'!, and a passable Tiger tank copy - rather than just using a standard tank with a German Cross on it!

and the music is quite catchy to!
