Whilst I have no time for him I cant help but think if they do think it needs this sort of punishment then we should have some random drug tests carried out on all MPs.
I somewhat doubt he isnt the only one with a willingness to buy illegal substances.

Yeah, that's what made me giggle. Personally I think his private life is nothing to do with us but that excuse is just hilarious.

Is “re-decorate the flat” going to become the new default response as to what to do with excess time or money, thus making the term “Coke and Hookers“ redundant?

It'll be up there with "Ugandan Discussions" and "Tired and emotional"

Cant remember which one of those ended up in a court case but the argument was it was such a well known euphemism now it counted as libel/slander.

He is the next door MP to me in Leicester. No-one admits to voting for him, though he must have huge support from the Asian community, why?, I just dont know.
How he gets any votes at all is beyond me. Rent Boys, corruption, fiddling expenses, offering to buy drugs are just some of the things he has been involved in. He is the Labour version of Boris Johnson.
The Labour Mayor has also been involved in some decidedly dodgy looking deals. His wifes business went bust last week, owing £60000 in rent. It appears her building was given £100k of tax payers money to refurbish it,she started a business in it, then she didnt pay any rent.
As for cycling, they are on a huge mission (multi millions) to add cycle lanes. The plans have been universally panned by anyone who cycle commutes, yet they still carry on. It's depressing.

I’m conflicted. On one hand it’s not the sort of thing I want politicians getting up to, but on the other, anything that winds up Andrew Bridgen is fine by me.

Once saw him have a row with a young chap at Stafford Services. Seemed rather odd.

I met him a couple of times in Leicester back around 2002. We performed a service for him at a party and he paid in big grubby £50 notes.

Alani- Sadiq has been a disastrous mayor - running up a deficit of close to £1b on TfL after freezing fares even though TfL told him that to do so would result in capex cuts down the line... BUT I can’t find any reference for the story involving his wife - can you share the source?

Thanks!

I've been unfortunate enough to have had professional dealings (no, not like that!) with this person a few times, and everytime he comes across as an arrogant and narcissistic PITA.

Politically speaking he is pretty much the archetypal self-serving, Blairite who, if the Conservatives weren't such a openly racist party, would have slid into their ranks.

Interestingly his spokespeople say he has been admitted to hospital, and that he has a cardiac condition that means that if he took cocaine it would kill him. Strange, I look after people quite regularly with various life-threatening conditions, who still chose to hammer legal and illegal drugs. Apparently it's the high that they're after and it overrules common sense. Whodathunkit?

Why just politicians, I mean it's not like people in other roles do that kind of thing, is it?

'suffering from severe mental health problems' seems to be the preferred line in an attempt to elicit sympathy.
Interesting how some people with a public profile trot out some words about mental health when they're exposed for who/what they are.
Any of the general public using that line in an attempt to deflect blame or otherwise downplay unacceptable/criminal behaviour would rightly attract public criticism and a cynical reaction.
I am sympathetic to people with mental health issues but critical of those who attempt to excuse their behaviour by claiming mental health problems.
Vaz was always an entitled arse who, in my view, was condescending and looked down on others.
Have a look at his entitlement to a re-settlement grant; winding-up costs for staff contracts and office rent; entitlement to an ill-health pension
calculated as if he had served until 65.
When he leaves parliament how long will it takes before he emerges in another public role?
Scum.

Its the Leicester Mayor, Peter Soulsby.I was told he doesnt live in Leicester, he commutes from Nottingham.
His daughter was involved in a restaurant after the Council funded the private buildings refurb (how does that happen?). Of course, he had nothing at all to do with it. Google it, there are lots of strange decisions by the Council, gave developers £2.5m to build houses, with no ownership by the Council, Bus lane and cycle lane farces. They demolished the old offices at a cost of £3m, the land was valued at £9m, but sold it for £24k, as it would improve the area.
Building Companies are booming in Leicester.

There is indeed a great deal of building going on in Leicester but (at least in the City Centre) much of it revolves around the two universities and accommodation for their students.

This in turn is freeing up a considerable amount of residential accommodation, that has previously been snapped up by buy-to-let slumlords for student accommodation.
