like many who are now working at home we have gone down to one car. so far it's working OK.
however how do we both keep our full no claims going? do we really have to reinsurer each year with different names as the policy holder and the other as a named driver?
I'm told the NC disappears if you haven't been insured as a policy holder for two years. is that right?
Yes. 2 year expiry. Keep the proof and eye on the date
Generally speaking yes, it expires after 2 years.
Run some quotes with an without .
Difference for me was 20 quid between a fresh policy (with zero claims zero no claims) and 10 years NCB with no claims.
Barely worth the effort
Difference for me was 20 quid
Don't forget about the compound effect. That might be 20 quid this year, but then another 18 quid difference next year for 1 vs 11...
But agree with checking some quotes to decide. £20 difference sounds cheap. You might not be so lucky
Why would you need to keep both NCDs going anyway? If you've only got one vehicle, then that policy will have the NCD of the policy holder. What would you insure with the other one?

We did this following my redundancy as we went down to one car, but, didn't know whether we'd need to go back to 2 cars again. As it turned out we did and was worthwhile, however, as childcare etc isn't an issue anymore if we were to go back to one car I wouldn't bother. Some insurers* will allow a spouse/partner to transfer their NCD into the other person's name just means you swap who has zero. (*Some will, some won't. Some let you duplicate your spouse's NCD so long as at renewal you stay with them otherwise you leave with 1 year etc.)
