You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I just bought a Kayak for 30 quid its old and filthy and made of glass fibre. I'm only going to be dicking about on the non tidal Thames/Mole but I'd like to clean it up a bit. Any suggestions or just a bit of jif and elbow grease?
Thanks
Give it a clean, check for any cracks on the seat and cockpit, these are easy to patch with matting and resin. Gel coat on the outside if it is damaged is simple too.
I'd be tempted to put carrymat where you touch the boat seated to avoid glass fibre rash if it's at all worn.
Fill it full of water first and look for leaks, then mild bleach and hose pipe after 30 mins.
Also press all over it, it should be hard to touch, if a bit flexy across the whole hull, anything flexing at the point you press only should be looked at.
Sound like good ideas thanks, spray deck tab seems like its detaching in a few places but I don't plan to use one anyway. I was going to pad it out in places as these old bones haven't been in a Kayak for many years. Need to fill it with water as it's full of spiders!
Give it a press before you fill it or you run the risk of blowing holes in it.
Cover it in carbon fibre vinyl wrap. That could look quite good 😉
Caravan or truck wash.
Finish off with car polish to get it looking smart.
