Following on from the 'undeserved fame' thread is this acceptable twitter 'banter' or not?
I'm referring only to the Scotland:England element as the topic is in bad taste as regards the highly laudable and brave work carried out by all of the volunteers/health workers in trying to cope with the victims/outbreak.
The police are apparently investigating those tweets. Use that information for whatever you want.
She won't **** off until everyone ignores her and she can no longer make a comfortable living from being horrible.
[s]attention seeking whore gains attention [/s]Its just nuanced top gear style humour
Ignore her
I cant understand why anyone would want to listen to anything that she has to say, i've seen her current tweets as they are plastered all over the internet. The sooner the police knock on her door the better!
I don't do twitter so she doesn't get to me through that medium. I kind of like people who are a bit 'challenging' but appreciate that it's not always in a good way!
I read the Police are looking into any criminality following 'a number of' complaints. Does STW think there has been any?
She should have been recognised in the NY honours list.
You mean like the way you ignore TG, Junky?
😉
Send her to the royal free hospital to apologise to the Scottish nurse.
Don't let her wear any protective equipment.
is 'nuanced' the new STW BS bingo word at the moment or something?
You heard it here first! 😳
Flash you dont read all my posts ....I am hurt
I only know TG is on because of STW and i can ignore the show * but not the threads ,unless its yours 😉 .
* I dont watch much tv and but for here i wouold never know it was on or when ir what it had done. Very few mentions on Radio 4 for some reason
She's an odious cretin, but people keep booking her for TV shows - that's the difference between her and some bloke on a park bench. She's a professional troll, she says these kinds of things to get people mad at her, so she'll get more money from TV and newspaper appearances.
I'm also very uncomfortable with the police investigating somone being a cretin on Twitter. They're not specific threats or incitement to violence. It's getting pretty close to thought crime.
I'd never heard oh her before and from that, hope never to again. Had to Google her to see who she is. I'm sure that Sandhurst and Exeter Uni are very proud of her achievements.
Ben you forgot she's hideously ugly too
Inquiries are ongoing into the nature of these tweets and to establish any potential criminality
Please be aware that we will continue to monitor comments on social media and any offensive comments will be investigated
Base, trolling shit-stirring? Yes. Offensive? Perhaps.
Criminal? **** no.
The "offensive" bit of that law needs scrapping asap.
She's a professional troll, she says these kinds of things to get people mad at her, so she'll get more money from TV and newspaper appearances.
Sounds like someone from top gear.
No such thing as bad publicity for these sort of people, as long as there are enough cretins listening.
It's getting pretty close to thought crime.
+1.
It's the mock horror on Schofield and Willoughby's faces followed by a quick invite back to the studio for more, that grates.
She does more self pawns that others - naming her daughter India was one of the best!
Agree with that THM it was beautiful
Seems she's got previous.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-25194850
The Apprentice star and Sun columnist Katie Hopkins has apologised after making a joke about Scots just hours after the Glasgow helicopter crash. She had tweeted: "Life expectancy in Scotland based 07/08 birth is 59.5. Goodness me. That lot will do anything to avoid working until retirement."
Thousands of people signed a petition calling for her to be banned from TV, and protest Facebook pages were set up.
Ms Hopkins apologised and said it had been "bad timing".
She's pretty much a female Jeremy Clarkson. Terrible human being, but gets viewers/readers, so keeps getting work.
Ben you forgot she's hideously ugly too
I didn't forget, her appearance has nothing to do with her vile opinions, and I don't think it's relevant any more than a man's appearance.
The woman is a weapons grade prick. I would love to see someone with some smarts tear her apart.
Scotland might have ebola but I think we've got off lightly, England has a long-running outbreak of hopkins.
Never heard of her, had to look her up;
"Hopkins is often introduced as a businesswoman in television appearances, and refers to herself in her media articles as an employer in a small business. She is the sole shareholder and only director of Katie Hopkins Limited, a company classified as a "business & management consultancy", based in Exeter, which was incorporated on 21 June 2007. Her husband acts as company secretary. As of 30 June 2013 the company had run at a net loss since June 2009, had a negative net worth of -£13,968, and had zero declared turnover during the previous two years."
Poor dear.
I actually think she has a mental health issue, or is verging on one. She cannot empathise with anyone or their circumstances (Obvious as far as back as The Apprentice). All the publicity she gets reinforces this behavior, making it the norm for her.
A sociopath with a Twitter account. Perfect combo.
I'm also very uncomfortable with the police investigating somone being a cretin on Twitter. They're not specific threats or incitement to violence. It's getting pretty close to thought crime.
Base, trolling shit-stirring? Yes. Offensive? Perhaps.
Criminal? **** no.The "offensive" bit of that law needs scrapping asap.
I don't think she will be prosecuted, obnoxious and repugnant as many of her comments are.
If the police are considering offences under Section 1 Malicious Communications Act, 1988 (Threatening Letters or other Articles) or under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 the wording is grossly offensive. The CPS guidelines for those offences will be subject to a high threshold and in many cases a prosecution is unlikely to be in the public interest.
In terms oh high threshold the guidelines say … there is the potential for a chilling effect on free speech and prosecutors should exercise considerable caution before bringing charges …
Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights reminds prosecutors - "Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include the freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers ..."
I'm not a fan of Clarkson but at least sometimes he can be slightly amusing. Hopkins is just disgustingly vile, sans humour.
Who the f*** is she? whoever she is only a mother could love that face.
wording is grossly offensive
could you give me some examples.......... 😛
Agreed it it not criminal just obvious and tiresome
Junkyard - lazarus
Flash you dont read all my posts ....I am hurtI only know TG is on because of STW and i can ignore the show * but not the threads ,unless its yours .
It's perfectly possible to ignore any thread on here, regardless of who's posting or what it's about, by the very simple means of never clicking on it.
The fact that you profess to know little about the programme, but still insist on reading the threads just so that you can throw in an opinion on what you claim to have no interest in shows you're really just one of the serially offended on someone else's behalf.
Do you write letters to the Daily Mail as well?
I have no idea who she is and am happy that way
offended on someone else's behalf.
You mean he has empathy?
I might be strange but I find that a good quality in a person. One that is so often lacking.

You are as helpful as you are wise and insightful

Is that a record at the most straw man ad homs in one sentence?
Its impressive.
Do you write letters to the Daily Mail as well?
Your subtle nuance and insightful brilliance really takes my breath away.
Clarkson is that you?
It interesting that somey think empathy is a weakness but I have never claimed and nor do I ever speak on behalf of anyone else but myself.
I just dont find racism funny even if I am not the victim of the racism
I now realise this is a massive personal failing thanks to STW and to quote Brooker from last night
" its funny because its racist"
I'm uncomfortable with you being uncomfortable that the police are doing their job i.e. responding to concerns raised by members of the public.I'm also very uncomfortable with the police investigating somone being a cretin on Twitter.
Good, we're all uncomfortable 😉
To clarify - the police received a complaint, they should investigate and they need to cover themselves. Problem is the lack of clarity over what is offensive, and there really needs to be a proper statutory freedom of speech as there is in the States.
The problem isn't with the police, it's with the "something must be done" attitude and the politician's response to it.
But I like Top Gear and I wasn't offended by Hopkins' tweets even though I am a Jock. I do think she has some mental health issues, and feel very sorry for her kids.
I think we can safely assume a lawyer checks all her tweets between them being ghost written for her and 'send' being clicked. She's a puppet and says or does whatever she's paid to. Although its a tweet in her own name she's paid by the Sun and it should be assumed that anything she broadcasts is by and for them, and this is written in the tabloid tradition of carefully avoiding libel by making broad brush, offensive and false accusations about groups of people without identifying any one person. The fuzz will investigate because they've be asked to but it'll be water tight.
In all this I too feel sorry for the family.
Imagine the horror, day after day, of waking up in the morning then realising you're still related to Katie Hopkins.
Imagine the horror, day after day, of waking up in the morning then realising you're [s]still related to[/s] Katie Hopkins.
FIFY
You're making an assumption of self-awareness there is no evidence for.
Insensitive? yes. Offensive? Probably. Trolling? Definitely.
The fact that there's been arrests over some tweets related to the tragic bin lorry crash and police are/were looking at these is worrying. You don't have the right not to be offended and trolling should only be a criminal matter when it becomes either violent or harassment. Merely being a cretin with a keyboard should not be enough to get you locked up.
funnily enough there was an ad for some program on one of the digital channels that she's presenting. or something. coincidence that she sends out tweets that raise her profile a week or two before she's on telly?
if you ignore the offensive little cretin she'll go away. if you keep lighting up the internet with her name, you'll keep her in work
Rather ironic that some of the posts on here are as unpleasant as the tweets that started the thread.
sorry captain, didn't relise you were looking for something to take offence at
On a perhaps more important sideline, could anyone who reports anything said on Twitter to the police for being offensive please be given a fixed penalty notice for wasting police time!
I think the communication medium, in this case twitter, deflects some of the issues.
Yes it was crass and insensitive but in the grand scheme of things it's not the worst thing that's ever happened.
However, imagine she'd written that tweet on a postcard instead and sent it to the family of the Ebola patient. Pretty much straight up harassment in that case, but somehow because its distributed to a wide audience via twitter, some of the impact on those that should be truly offended by it, is lost.
Either way she's an absolute attention seeking cow. Best thing to do is ignore her. She revels in the attention.

The problem with a Tweet is it can be both, like sending a poison pen letter and starting a billboard campaign at the same time. Like I said before, Hopkins tweet has been carefully crafted to keep her out of bother while having the maximum malicious effect. Where prosecutions have been brought its because either out of pointed malice, of idiocy that has the same malicious effect, you can directly harass someone and create an audience for that harassment while you do it.

Agreed and that's what gets missed. For all the mock outrage, people forget that the message gets to those that actually matter

WPT requires DPP consent so they wouldn't be eligible for a FPN! Know what you mean though 😀
I have had a few friends share her comments on facebook through pro-independence pages. What worries me is that an idiots comments have brought out an anti-English sentiment in many posts. Comments like hers are manna from heaven for nationalist websites. I have seen
"English cow", "English ****", "this is what most people South of the border think of Scotland", as well as "is it a wonder most Scots don't like the English".
None of these comments will be pulled up however. I have only heard of her following this anti-Scottish outburst, and wonder where was the lynch mob when she was offending Muslims in Scotland, the overweight in Scotland, the poor of Scotland, or Palestinians living in Scotland. The answer is that none of these help bring up the warming glow of anti-Englishness many hold dear but deny to admit.
This is just. Continuation of the top gear thread. Pointless under celeb shocks audience to get attention shocker...

This is more a result of social media bubbles than anything else. I reckon if you had a lot of friends who were members of groups who were offended previously you would of seen the same reaction. I also think it's an anti English **** sentiment and not a more general anti everyone English view. Look at the reaction Farage got up in Scotland.
I disagree utterly with Farage, however he appeals to a portion of the populace disaffected with a mainstream political establishment making rules against the wishes of a self determining nation with different aspirations from another. Does this sound familiar?

She's not even a real Hop.

I'm not going to turn this into another indy thread, the point was that he got called an English **** too. People took offense because he's a ****, not because he's English.
Why then should the word English be used? Bill Cosby may be a **** for what he is being accused of. Why would his colour also be a point of prosecution. See where I am coming from? His colour does not insinuate crime, but notice that he is black! Typical nationalist behaviouer..
Shoe and other foot to the nats.
FWIW, the guy who had a go at Farage when he was in Edinburgh and told him to."go home" is...

The problem with this enfht is that it clearly allows nationalists to use this as ammunition to the seperatist gun. Again I ask where were the crowd when an offence was being caused to Scotlands poor , Palestinians, overweight or Scotlands Muslims. The undeniable truth is that the Che Guevara t-shirt gets put on whenever it fits. At this time of year that is a struggle when following the referendum result, the closest some get to social justice is giving an all expenses trip to Dignitas for our pensioners, to allow the young to decide Scotland's future.
Come on scotroutes. I give you credit for understanding that all people don't feel a sense of Scottish Nationalism as some. You surely understand that the person that extolled the superiority of Germany wasn't actually
.
.
.
German!?!?!?
Your point?
athgray please don't let the minority of idiots wind you up, or you will end up like captainflasheart
mushrooms. I know that we are talking of minorities, however I feel that it will not take much more than the scant evidence being presented to persuade a few % to switch to independence. The problem is that when polls are close a minority make a difference. I have no problem with CFH. Sounds like he would be interested in hearing the virtues of good single malt followed by a good bit of trail blazing somewhere in these isles. What is the problem?
I thought she was a "character" that someone made up, not an actual real life genuine ****? Why are people getting so ****ed off?
Believe me aphex_2k that is what I initially thought, until it brought out the true sentiment in people. Trust me, this is a sprinkle of fuel to the fire of those believing Scots are above this, worthy of something better than the rest. Look out for more anti-Scottish comments by z-list English celebrities, brought to you by a well organised pro-independence social media intent on raising the ire of fellow Scots against a pro UK mainstream press.
Surely we can join as a community to deride her views on Palestinians as "Filthy Rodents", although I understand this means reaching out beyond a parochial Scottish tainted view of the World.
So she is a failed apprentice who opened her legs in a field to some married guy (on camera) and just talks pure shite to get a rise from people.
I have more respect for dog shit in the street than this sad excuse for a human.
Ignore the bint and she will (hopefully) disappear.

Would you? I would for 10k (after tax & expenses)
ATG - most sensible Scots are perfectly able to see through Katie Hopkins, after all they saw though the other bloke well enough and they both talk bllx. Why rise to her? She adds nothing of value except £s to her bank balance. Best ignored.
Again I ask where were the crowd when an offence was being caused to Scotlands poor , Palestinians, overweight or Scotlands Muslims.
The circles don't intersect. When she says something anti-Scottish, then lots of Scottish people hear about it. When she says something anti-Palestinian, it doesn't get passed around Scottish people. I'd barely heard of her.
I'd never heard of her, had to google.
Seems utterly forgettable tbh.
Oh come on - if you find those comments offensive, you must dedicate little flowers, not the gnarr core STW heroes that I thought you all were! 😉
Total waste of police time. In fact it's so obviously a waste of police time they should have told the "complainants" there was nothing to investigate straight away..
teamhurtmore, I have no problem with Katie Hopkins. As I say I had no knowledge of who she was until this episode. I have an issue with the fact this has been spread by people following pro independence websites. There is nothing benign about this. The attempt is to sew seeds of anti-Englishness into people. This is just a bit more fuel to give to people in a couple of years when we have another once in a lifetime referendum.
I don't watch the apprentice, but I am sort of aware of Katie hopkins and how she got her start as a "payed to spout" Gob-shite.
Perhaps it's the limited circles I move in but I haven't met anyone who likes her or the views expressed by her.
But it must all appeal to someone, I'm guessing it's mostly the swivel eyed, slighty more to the right of right-wing, frustrated, middle class, middleaged white Males... But that might be my own prejudices colouring my opinions.
Ultimate she's more a symptom of our general social/political/moral malaise than a cause of it, one of many ostensibly pointless self promoting wind sacks tasking up valuable bandwidth.
I propose that we play them at their own game, form and third, unelected house: Here "professional bloggers", click-bait writers, big brother runner ups and Russell Brand can all "debate" (waffle loudly at one another). Obviously we need to make them belive they're having an impact so periodically we get them to vote on some topic or another (we can just ignore any outcome) and there will always be lots of visible cameras pointing at them just to flatter the ego's.
But ultimately this "House of the self important" is merely a device to keep irrelevant morons out of the way. That is my recommendation.
Would ' professional trollers' have a purpose or market without the 'professionally offended' who jump up and down in apoplectic fits of horror and rage every time someone says something that remotely upsets their (often public funded) apple cart?
ATG, well they are as bad as she is and can be ignored in the same way
Would ' professional trollers' have a purpose or market without the 'professionally offended' who jump up and down in apoplectic fits of horror and rage every time someone says something that remotely upsets their (often public funded) apple cart?
Was with you up until the "public funded" bit, because I'm not sure what you mean - it's usually religions who have the most fun being professionally offended.
(athgray)
teamhurtmore, I have no problem with Katie Hopkins.
Its a free country.. If you wish to support a bigotted, racist, weightist, eliteist homewrecking skank like her.... Go straight ahead.
Would ' professional trollers' have a purpose or market without the 'professionally offended' who jump up and down in apoplectic fits of horror and rage every time someone says something that remotely upsets their (often public funded) apple cart?
you would spend a lot less time on the internet 😉
FWIW that is a beautiful troll I bet you are rather proud of it.
TBH professionally offended is a weak attack often used by folk who are knowingly being rude to folk they dont like/respect and that was a classic example - to be fair this might be one as well but I rarely reach your heights/depths.
I have just googled her.
Very strange, seems to be on a crusade to fight fat people. Is that more fashionable than attacking muslims
