Amazing how poorly advised the Royals are.... not really a good look for the front page of The Times today. Just ask a Ukrainian or Palestinian what those fun little drones are used for!

It's the crazed look on her face that worries me!
It appeals to the kind of people who like royalty I guess?
Don't knock her, she's done well to get to colonel at her age.
As someone who wore a uniform (and got it dirty) I find the dressing up as a toy soldier and playing with the equipment of death for a photo shoot pretty ****ing grim. But doing so right now...with that grin on her face....she can get to ****! Leach.

Lighten up. It's a bullshit defence engagement activity as part of her colonel-in-chief role, they've been a dog and pony show since time.
I like how you use your 'dirty' uniform as though it somehow gives you authority and credibility.

You kind of made my point for me.

Read it as you want.
That look on her face suggests she’s flying that armed drone over her neighbours house
Either that or she has found one of the particularly annoying papparazzi photographers and after scrawling "how do you like being on the receiving end" on the drone is currently following them everywhere they go

I'm no royalist but (1) the are the "King's Army" so complaining the royals are playing soldiers seems a bit ironic; (2) why is the equipment of death worse when there is a war on - if people thought about it in peacetime maybe we would be a bit less fighty; (3) I'm sure many a "real" soldier has had a weird grin on when getting to play with the toys in training/peacetimes - she wasnt actually shooting anyone; (4) her entire reason d'etre is to do photoshoots - smiling is her thing; (5) I didn't understand why she got dressed up - she didn't last week for her 'mountainbiking' but it seems she is actually an officer in the army so was actually just wearing her "official" costume.
I suspect most people see that picture and it just reinforces their existing biases either she's a sweet princess doing her bit to support our troops and support Britain's place in the world or she's a sponger with no grasp on reality and the real problems in the world. It was by no means the most upsetting photo in todays press so distracted nicely from the real issues.
she wasnt actually shooting anyone
I'll wait till the morning news comes in before I decide 😉
I just came here to thank you for not splitting her name up with exclamation marks.
Ta mate.
Is she controlling William’s new toy?

I am a committed constitutional republican. As a result, I detest members of the royal family taking various honorary military ranks that they have not earned. It’s just another royal privilege they do not deserve. poly pointed out earlier in this thread they were the “Kings army” - but in reality they have no control over the use of the armed forces.
well that’s bollocks, it’s the British Army. No reference to “King’s” anywhere. Just because you give some bloke an honorary title doesn’t mean he can dictate troop deployment or call in bombing runs 😂I’m no royalist but (1) the are the “King’s Army”
And even if he could, Kate isn’t “The King” so this is the equivalent of your boss’ wife coming into the office at the weekend, rifling through the cupboards and dressing up in any PPE she finds, then using all the photocopiers.
I had to actually Google her married name!
It's: Catherine Elizabeth Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge
Which is rather odd as Williams full name/title is: William, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, PC, ADC (William Arthur Philip Louis)
So shouldn't she be Mrs Louis?
Mind you, they do like making up names for convenience to keep us plebs placated, hence the "House of Windsor"...
Harry was Harry Wales wasn't he? Does that mean he was actually related to the outlaw Josey Wales? I think we should be told!
Gawd bles ‘er. Wearing a poppy and supporting are troops.
Not like that nasty Megan, she’d refuse to wear one are support are troops.
Wearing a poppy
Placement is pretty good though...

Was his nickname 'Killer'?

On that basis…. Ant Middleton? That connection might start to justify the mad stare, if not the uniform.
That photo is just sexy-time dress-up.
She's operating a remote control love length, and the smile is because she's just put it on max-vibrate. 🙂
She's more "minion" in that photograph than "cheeky Geordie".

SWAT team incoming!
Subtle ring on her finger too, from the Elizabeth Duke range?
or she’s a sponger with no grasp on reality and the real problems in the world
That gets my vote poly.
I feel sorry for all the squaddies how noboubt had to make sure everywhere smells of fresh paint and polish just so she can have a pr photo taken. I’m not sure how that’s meant to improve anyone’s morale within the ranks
“House of Windsor”…
We are pretty friendly with the Germans these days perhaps they should reaccept the whole incesstuous nonsense and retake Saxe Coburg Gotha or whatever they actually are.
Meh, I think this is pretty much her job, the drone thing is incredibly tonedeaf but the worst you can say about her from that is that she maybe should have said "no", I doubt she had anything to do with the idea. And when you've married into the weirdest family in the world and you've never really done anything yourself, probably knowing when to say no isn't so easy. Or even thinking "maybe I should/can say no to this".
Given the amount of tone deaf stuff her and the incredibly wealthy bald bloke have done I don't there's much thinking at all.
well that’s bollocks, it’s the British Army. No reference to “King’s” anywhere.
well you can be pedantic about the name - but they fight in his name, he declares war and they swear an allegiance to him and his successsors!
Just because you give some bloke an honorary title doesn’t mean he can dictate troop deployment or call in bombing runs 😂
I’d abolish the monarchy in a heartbeat, because of everything they represent. I don’t have any personal issue with Catherine though - and she’s doing the task expected of her in her official role so criticising her rather that a country that is stuck in the 1700s is a bit dim.
And even if he could, Kate isn’t “The King” so this is the equivalent of your boss’ wife coming into the office at the weekend, rifling through the cupboards and dressing up in any PPE she finds, then using all the photocopiers.
it’s not. It might be more akin to a member of the family business who is not the chairman of the board but has a significant role being involved in a product launch and involved in a photoshoot. I doubt she woke up one day and said “I’d like to go play with military toys today”, someone specifically invited her - probably with lots of back and forth over dates and clothing sizes etc! The assumption that this was was for “her” benefit ignores that there are equally as many people willing to exploit her image to promote their cause, whether it’s a charity, an environmental cause or in this case military recruitment etc.
Never did understand the hatred of drones in warfare, people seem to think they are sneaky or underhand, so much better if you're killed or seriously maimed by a real person! Otherwise pretty much this:
Meh, I think this is pretty much her job
There's much more serious things to get your panties in a bunch over. And this.
Lighten up. It’s a bullshit defence engagement activity as part of her colonel-in-chief role, they’ve been a dog and pony show since time.
nah, if anyone's a bit dim it's whoever said thisso criticising her rather that a country that is stuck in the 1700s is a bit dim.
😂reason d’etre
Why safety goggles? Is it in case she can’t control the drone and it flies directly in to her face?

Wait until they find out we also use JTAC's via fast air and rotary platforms to drop guided explosive munitions onto people, often out of their line of sight and sound...
Why safety goggles? Is it in case she can’t control the drone and it flies directly in to her face?
Because someone would have had to have drawn up an Exercise Action Safety Plan / Exercise Aide Memoire and put in mitigation to reduce the risk associated with the whole day to as low as reasonably practicable.
And since Telic/Herrick eyepro has become a mandated piece of PPE for quite a few activities, losing sight ****ing sucks or so I've been told.
Why, exactly, is everyone getting their knickers in a twist over the fact she’s flying a drone? <br />Anyone would think that the use of drones in warfare was a really, really new thing being used in Ukraine and Palestine!
Newsflash; the first guided drones were flown by Great Britain and America in 1917, and Austria launched 200 balloons carrying explosives in the 1800’s. Then there are the likes of the Reaper, which have been used to take out insurgents all over the Middle East.
Then there’s surveillance drones…
Deary me, some people will use any excuse to indulge in a bout of pearl clutching.🙄
I feel sorry for all the squaddies how noboubt had to make sure everywhere smells of fresh paint and polish just so she can have a pr photo taken. I’m not sure how that’s meant to improve anyone’s morale within the ranks
Depending on the leadership culture, this isn't always a chore. Although though as these visits often have senior military personnel attached, the sort of people that can influence the direction of your bosses career so some get very twitchy.
I've found myself painting shovel and pick heads for a visit before. The best visits are when you're on exercise, kit is usually suitably minging so people tend to give less ****s, so on camp visits can be an absolute ballache.
Oh yeah, and I've also got my kit dirty.
45 posts and no ones mentioned Pippa yet…

I got about four words from that. I think Daredevil and Rutger Hauer in that eighties blind swordsman’s film would beg to differ. Being blind was ****ing awesome for them! Imagine how shit Matt Murdock would be if he’d have been wearing Telic whatsitis when that chemical spillage happened.
Why, exactly, is everyone getting their knickers in a twist over the fact she’s flying a drone?
Maybe they fear she is promoting the royal auditing regiment.
Flying a drone by Virtual Royalty?
For me its two things that are distasteful. The main one is the dressing up in military uniforms cos play stuff. I find that really abhorrent. OK if you have actually served as some of the royals have but this is disrespectful to those who have served. The second issue is its distasteful to have a look of glee as if playing with a toy when its a weapon to kill folk ( or to identify folk to kill)
I'm a pacifist. Non of my family ever saw active service. However the looks on the faces of the veterans of WW2 that I looked after on the 50th anniversary of VE day will be with me for ever. That has coloured my views. I will not accept disrespect to those who put their lives on the line.
The merchant fleet, who literally 'delivered' for the country are never recognised. They were easy targets, very little defensive weaponry and when they got sunk, their seaman's ticket was stamped 'discharged at sea' ie no more pay and you're on your own. Coming from a lightering and seafaring family, I can't get excited about all this dressing up in uniform and celebrating killing nonsense. But anyway, what would she know.
Red ensign has flown at the cenotaph since 1919.
the PR guy who arranged andys interview has been at it again

WGAF??
Kate's left hand looks well dodgy also. Doesn't she wear rings?
Pfft, that’s a lizard in an ill fitting skinsuit if ever I saw one
This was followed by a third agency, AFP, which also issued a "mandatory kill notice".
I'm not the biggest fan of the Royals but even I think that's a bit of an extreme retaliation for sending out a dodgy photo.
Normally no interest in royal stuff but that is a priceless cock up. Woman who is normally quite visible disappears after surgery you are relatively coy about. All legit and reasonable to want a bit of privacy, but lets rev up all the conspiracy nut jobs by posting up a badly shopped photo giving even the tame press carte blanche to go into rumour overdrive.
My guess is they've moved her from a wheelchair to a normal chair, got the tricky stuff right but messed up around the edges.
As a proof of life photo it's backfired horribly.
Does the AP have form for pulling photos that have been photoshoppped, or is this a grand gesture to force a public appearance? I can't imagine certain types of slebs sending out unaltered publicity shots. Does these all get flamboyantly banned?
Has anyone managed to blame Meghan yet?
The Palace have ****ed up again
If only tne Press were this persistent investigating the actions of our politicians as they are checking up on a woman recovering from surgery.

I think you've missed the point entirely, it's not about that the picture has been photoshopped, it's why would they need to photoshop that picture?
I say "that picture", but looking at the detailed image 'oddity' in The Guardian, I wonder how many pictures they actually started with...

I'm not sure I have missed the point.
The point I made was - most publicity photos are fiddled with anyway. How many times have AP refused (in such a pointed performative fashion) to show them?
Maybe they stuck a photo together where all the kids were laughing, no one had their eyes closed everyone looking the same way. You know, the stuff a Google phone does for you now when you press the screen.

I'll ask BiL, he's the tech geek for AP's distribution of stories and images...
The merchant fleet, who literally ‘delivered’ for the country are never recognised.
Too true. One of my great Uncles was ejected from a NAAFI for having the temerity to ask for a cuppa. "You're not in the forces was the excuse" despite the fact that there would have been no ****ing tea if not for Harry and his mates. They were ill-used during the war and recognition has come too late for them.
Trees must come into leaf early doon soooth

Tsk,ya dafty,Vivariums have a controlled environment all year round 😉 😜
Sleeve of a cardigan, odd thing to photoshop.........
Why do they not learn lessons? They were totally mocked for the Christmas card with missing middle fingers and legs in the wrong place. Now they have gone and done it again. I honestly don't care about the Royal family or any surgery that Kate has had. But lots of people do, and this sort of thing just chucks fuel on the gossipy fire.
Does the AP have form for pulling photos that have been photoshoppped
News agencies like Reuters and AP won't publish altered photographs as it undermines the validity of the source and story. I'm surprised this photo went as long as it did before being pulled given how bad it is.
Has anyone seen Paul McCartney and Kate Middleton in the same room?
Just sayin'
I'd be having words with the painter who did the windows.
Much as I love a good conspiracy theory, I agree this that this explanation is probably the most likely. Smart phone automagically combining multiple images;

Sleeve of a cardigan, odd thing to photoshop………
I suspect plenty of wizard's sleeves have been shopped over the years. Different industry though!
In this case I'm guessing a few scales were showing and needed covering up.
And the little dude 's (sorry, not up on their names) finger thing - impressive. Try it - it's uncomfortable. I suspect it's a secret message to the authorities that he's ok and his captors are treating him well (apart from making him dress up like a tiny middle aged man for the proof of life photo).
Does the AP have form for pulling photos that have been photoshoppped, or is this a grand gesture to force a public appearance?
The BBC article linked above answers that question.
Much as I love a good conspiracy theory, I agree this that this explanation is probably the most likely. Smart phone automagically combining multiple images;
In which case, I'll offer to be Royal Press office.
"Like most modern families, the Prince and Princess of Wales often use smart phones to capture family portraits. In this instance, the Prince of Wales has used his own phone to take the photograph and the phones software has automatically adjusted the image by merging several pictures together, resulting in the appearance of manual correction. We understand why this has caused some confusion and, to prevent such confusion, we will, wherever possible, endeavour to use unadjusted images in the future. "
Its really not difficult.
I’d be having words with the painter who did the windows.
Indeed. Lawn could do with mowing too.
