I fancy a new Gi. Mine is a cheap lightweight poly/cotton job and I want something a bit heaver that will “pop” and “snap”.

I was thinking of a Blitz Odachi, but found these online at a price that appeals to me tightwad sensibilities.

14oz, canvas, Japanese cut (I like the shorter arms and legs).

Any other suggestions?

Black. No sleeves. Big picture of a cobra.

Mercy is for the weak.

Isn't it hit by lightening and bit by a cobra?

They get bloody hot though. Nice if you are doing competition Kata, but otherwise I'd go for the lightest weight possible for training (but I am a sweaty bastard)

Fair to say Jonny was by far the better technician. Just a bit of complacency. Shame they never had a rematch.

I'm a bit of a sweater too, but the flapping about of the sleeves bugs me more than the heat.

I found the heavier weight worse on the legs than the top. Especially after they've been washed lots and the strings don't do up as tight anymore 😳

Black Eagle ones are a good option imo - good enough for Iain Abernethy = good enough for me. A lightweight gi is nice, especially if you run hot, right up to the moment you are doing any sort of throws / takedowns / grappling etc, whereupon it will rip in short order. Ask me how I know etc...

It's been a while since I practiced Karate, but I'd say go heavyweight, don't worry about the sweat, instructors will be impressed by profuse sweating, and also the heavier it is, the longer it'll last. Plus, you know, the noise thing.
