I find it hard to marry up his musical brilliance with his political and personal madness
Yeah I feel like you can see him round the curve from 2008-2012, with 'Dark Twisted' as the magnum opus where his talent, ego and mental health issues all balanced each other out, and he created (IMO) one of the most ambitious and influential hiphop albums of the last 20 years. Then on Yeezus it was all starting to fall apart. But it was still a hell of a statement. And he's been on a downward slope ever since, making worse music and acting like more of a prick as time goes on. It's a real shame.
