Please help an online fashion luddite - I have never bought clothes online before other than cycling gear.,

I need to go a funeral on Monday so thought I would quickly check my suit was still okay as I hadn't worn it since last March when I stopped going to the clients offices. Well let's just say I won't work off that much weight before Monday.

I used to just walk in to Savoy Tailors Guild and say I wanted a dark blue/grey suit that fitted. The man went away and brought back a couple of different ones and I chose the one I liked. How does that work in the new online world?

What clothes shops are open that sell suits?

Do I just order 1/2 a dozen on line in the hope that one of them looks okay and fits?

Hah yeah I don't fit in my work trousers either 🙁 I noticed M&S clothes area seemed to be open this time around (it was shut last lockdown)

Next.

All my work suits are from Next.
Their sizes are a good fit (on me) and you can order multiple pairs of trousers as you buy the components of the suit individually.

I am fortunate that my waste has stayed okay. I can just sort of flop my belly over the waist band*.

*Yes I know it's the least healthy type of fat. I'm trying to do something about it.

Must be getting plenty of fibre then.

M&S appear to have a lot of stock...

I had to get one for the reverse reason (humblebrag) that I lost 15kg last year and none of my suits fitted. Ordered a few bits, dropped the stuff that wasn't any good back when I could.

M&S stores that sell food will be open for clothes BUT the changing rooms are closed. I guess you could try on a jacket without it being too much of an issue. Buy couple of pairs of trousers and return ones that don't fit.

It's not just me then. I sense a market opportunity for suits with an elastic waist band.

In all seriousness of you know the make and cut that normally fits, start there and go up a size? For example cyclists often have larger than average thighs and buttocks so I have learnt certain brands are a bit more generous here, and I'll avoid slim or tailored fit, plus I eye flat fronted trousers with caution as although not current fashion pleated front has a bit more thigh room.

Well I ordered on line before reading that M&S were open where they served food. Nipped down to the local M&S got a new shirt and suit and came how to cancel my online order. You cannot cancel or amend an order after the first 30 minutes. I now have to wait for the 2* suits and 2 shirts I order to be delivered so I can then return them for a refund. Slightly annoying.

*I ordered the next two sizes just in case
