I was just Googling to see opinions on optical cable quality Vs. price, as I imagined an optical cable would either work, or not!
Came across the above thread where a guy gets grief for spending £100ish on a couple of cables...
As it stands, I've jsut ordered one for a few quid from eBay, which I think looks lovely....

Assuming it's a digital signal then over a short distance pretty much yes. Over longer distances (km) the termination quality starts to matter. If you buy decent FO cables you get an individual calibration sheet with each one, showing the leasured loss.
"leasured loss" -chuckle- footflaps keyboard is 2km away from his screen.
It's from the Xbox to the new sound-bar...
The cable is 2m long.... 😉

My keyboard hasn't been calibrated for some time....
I'm going to calibrate mine by shining a torch in one end, and timing how long it takes to shine out the other.
A bit of maths will tell me if it's out or not...

Better base line your testing by checking the speed of light is ok. Don't want your measurements being messed up by some intense gravitational anomaly slowing things down. Could end up binning a perfectly decent cable just because you were too near to a black hole.
OMG - just clicked on this thread and it came up framed by ads for audio cables - looks over shoulder nervously.
