So that now means TWO things taking up all my money!!

It's been really good doing the training, though - made me think a lot more about how I ride my bicycle on the road, too. I think I really wasn't as commanding of my space on the road as I could have been.

Awesome, I've always fancied a bike but never gotten around to it. Ride safe.

Congratulations . I had some great times travelling about on my motor bike decades ago but never sat the test. How did you do the training? I'm thinking about doing one of the intensive courses

Intensive course:

1 day CBT on 125
1/2 day lesson on 125 and the rest of the day on my own to just ride around
Theory Test
1 day lesson on 600 to work up to the actual tests
1/2 day lesson followed by MOD1 test
1/2 day lesson followed by MOD2 test.

🙂

Cool. Motorbikes are brilliant 🙂 What's the A licence? Is that for proper big bikes? It was the DAS when I did mine. Is there a new bike on the shopping list then?

ha ha - the NHS have already rebuilt me once, I don't think they would be too happy about repairing their good work...

I'd like something I can ride a little on the rough as well as the road - maybe a BMW g650gs? Or equivalent??

Now try and find some advanced training (as soon as you have a bike). The Direct Access course just teaches you how not to fall off (too often). It doesn't make you a safe rider. I did a 6 week Police run course and learnt so much from it. It was free and run in conjunction with the local council. I learnt more in those sessions than 20 odd years of driving.....

Yes, already arranged the further training. I'm very much aware I have at least as much to learn as I have learned so far...

How much did the training cost you? Something I've been meaning to do as well

Remember not every driver on the road will knock you off by accident, the rest I'll do it on purpose.

Be safe.

I have an F650 single 1995 vintage the G650gs is a modern version. Not sure I'd fancy going off road with it though. Fun bike to ride at sensible non license losing speeds. If I had the cash I'd get a little 250 to try some off roading.

Congrats, I passed my big bike licence last month after doing a 3 day DAS course. Need to sort out a home for the bike before I can get it though so some shed building to be done before the Guzzi can arrive 🙂

That reminds me - my mum's a granny and I've still not told her about the motorbike thing...

I passed my test in my 20's and I had owned a motorbike for about 18 months before I told my mum. She was so anti bikes, and all she saw when she looked at a motorbike was a skull and cross bones. She cried when I told her.

She's cool about it now though, and has even been out on the back with me once, albeit at about 20mph down her road and back.

Congrats Rachel!!!!

I passed my test two months ago after never being on a bike before. Wanted to do it forever and finally got round to it.
Greatest feeling in the world and after illness has forced me off the bike recently it means I'm still getting my dose of the peaks in, albeit a little quicker 😀

I'd say get a bike ASAP so your putting your training to use whilst its all still fresh. Instead of getting one next spring when you haven't been on a bike for 6 months.

Ducati Monster 1100

I got the Ducati Monster 695 but already drooling at the 1100 evo!

That's what was worrying me, but being realistic I just wont have a safe place created before Christmas. My sisters boyfriend offered me the use of his Fireblade, but that gives me the fear frankly!

I passed my DA 2 weeks ago, but wont be buying a big bike for a few months when Ive got some pocket money together. In the meantime I shall be bothering the local retailers testing various s/h and trade in stock to pin down what Im looking for. As my gut feel for a high-seated 3 or 4 straight cylinder tourer/commuter may not necc be the right one.

But Ive spoken to my instructor about spending half a day with him when I do get it to get it to supervise me getting back on to a bigger bike and with some more advanced riding craft. Im going to join the local training/riding club as well.

that's the kind of thing a_a

But Im not sure if Im going to jump in at £5k+, rather than spend a bit of time on a £2k 10yr old bike first. Obviously the lower price get's past Mrs S more easily. And I can afford to make a few mistakes (both in choice of bike/style and clumsy handling)

As a kid I always fantasised over a Trans Alp or Africa Twin. But having passed my test on a hateful little 650 suzuki v twin Im not sure it's what I want to buy.
