Just wanted to say it out loud because I haven't told my firm yet and am bursting to say it 🙂

After 3 weeks worth of interviews by the board, I've just been offered to role of legal counsel for a £10bn+ turnover global company.

Have been wanting to make the move from private practice to in house for some time now, but suitable roles have been like hens teeth.

This one popped up a while back and I was finally made an offer today, despite the fact I didn't think I stood a chance. There's only 3 other lawyers in my department, who are all really nice too, and I'm the most junior, so some nice room for progression.

(plus they've offered me MORE money than I was on in private practice, which is quite unusual, I was preparing myself for a pay cut, so that's a nice bonus too!).

Sorry for the self-indulgent thread, but i'm just very, very excited 🙂

I'm still waiting on my dream job, but sadly I've yet to see an advert for a job as Allesandra Ambrosio's bikini line waxer

Fantastic!

It makes such a difference to your whole life when you enjoy your work!

Over the last 20 years Ive been self employed for 5 before joining the cops, during which time I've done a couple of horrible, thankless roles and some amazing, challenging specialist roles. Finally got my dream role about six weeks ago and can pretty much do my own thing (the occasional shitty shift but you can't have it all can you?)

You dreams are very dull...unless your colleagues are international underwear models and everyday is bikini tuesday (and before I get accused of being chauvinistic I hav'nt been gender specific).

thanks guys 🙂

You dreams are very dull

OK, point taken 😉 I meant to say my deam law job.

Generally less hours, although not always. One of the major perks of in house is the more predicable work hours compared to private practice. Not necessarily less hours, but generally you're less likely to be forced to cancel every bloody holiday that you book as you're on your way to the airport with your girlfriend.

I've just been offered to role of legal counsel for a £10bn+ turnover global company.

Two things;
1 - Congratulations, that's superb!
2 - We need to do lunch. 8) Seriously.

ha ha, those of us in the law tend to hang up our "real" dreams when we enter the profession 🙂

You buying? I'm client side now!

Yes its not bad, but that what you get when you sell your soul to the devil, which is what you do for a law firm.

Yes, friend's son working for some city firm in law as a junior earns more than £90k per year ...

I know a number of firms paying NQs (i.e. those just finished their training contract, not long out of university...babies!) over £100k as standard now.

But when you can bill clients a baby lawyer who knows naff all about being a lawyer at £400+ per hour, then why not pay them loads 😉

However, sugdenr has it spot on....

Yes its not bad, but that what you get when you sell your soul to the devil, which is what you do for a law firm.

My facebook page has my employer listed as "The Devil". Private practice for a big firm, particularly a US one, involves you renting out your arse and soul for whatever pleasures clients and partners can dream up. That's why they pay so much. I've been wanting out for a long time, but the move had to be right, I didn't want to be crawling straight back to private practice.

I'm moving to a major client of my firm, so my bosses are positively kissing my ass at the moment (those who know about the move anyway). I'm on my way to being a client now, so they have to treat me like i'm royalty. Booking myself in for a crack and sack wax for next week to make the rest of my notice period easier on them 😉

I can feel my soul reaching down, begging me to take it back. Not sure I need it, but I'm liking the feel good factor that comes with knowing I might be entitled to having it back...
