driving back from dinner in the new forest, hit a badger hard (70mph on a dual carriageway, had no chance).
some damage to the bumper but it’s also ripped off a chunk of the casing between the engine and the wheel arch.
what am in for on the repair?
bit shaken up by it tbh
Shit. Was it definitely your fault or was it not black and white?
Edit: Sorry...
Bit shaken up by it tbh
Not as much as the badger was probably.
Depends on what car you have really. Personally I'd be looking at replacement parts from a scrappy and just swap them over as insurance/new parts is ££££
Yeah the badger is definitely the bigger loser.
seat Leon - only 6 months old and only just got it back from the garage after one of my business partners reversed into it in the staff car park.
sigh

Just consider yourself lucky that it wasn't a honey badger. One of those would have ripped your car apart and eaten it.

Slightly pointless advice without knowing anything about the car.
Impossible to guess at cost without seeing the damage, but at 6 months old it is obviously worth shelling out and getting it fixed properly. Doubt fitting shite old parts from a scrap yard would do your warranty much good.
If the car is that new get it repaired properly. It sounds like a lot of damage therefore expensive.
Do you have protected no-claims?if yes, use it.
It will be a non-fault accident but will be declared as your fault as the badger doesn't have insurance to claim from. I found this out the hard way when I hit a red deer north of Ullapool years ago.
😱

Irresponsible bastards the lot of them, and they don't even pay road tax.
This wouldn't have even happened if it was compulsory for badgers to wear helmets.

And Hi-Vis!
All wildlife should be made to wear fluorescent clothing so as not to inconvenience the motorist who is making progress. Or maybe we could genetically modify them so they are born glow in the dark?

Yup, they're nasty! Ewww!

Workshy lazy bastards - asleep all day on the hard shoulder
A mate hit a cat at about 70 on the A55 some years ago. Did pretty much all the damage you describe, with the added bonus of ripping out the brake hose and the abs sensor. It was an older car but still cost a packet to put right.
My wife hit a badger at night on the A55 in a company Mondeo a few years back. As well as front end damage to bumper etc it also damaged the radiator. I see dead badgers all over the the place in North Wales. Was riding along a narrow lane yesterday and I was surprised to see a dead fox staring at me from inside a hedge! Mind you, I was quite close to the local hunt hq.
