For balance, just lost 5 kilos in 4 days on the 'Norovirus plan' but certainly wouldn't recommend it...

Dread to think how much our water bill's gonna be after all that bog flushing. Currently weaning myself back onto solid food. 😯

cut white carbs out of your diet (bread, pasta, rice, wheat of any kind and all fizzy pop's) try starting your day with a purely Protein breakfast rather than cereal or toast) eat more green stuff, nuts and salads ... you'll be down to a Svelte 20 stone in no time ;O)

Bloody hell ton.! 😯

22 stone 10 pounds = 144.242374kg

1000kg - 144.242374 = 855.757626

On the plus side you still have 855kg to go before you live up to your name.

So 18 stone is about fighting weight. If you want some help with training and diet send me a pm, I'd be glad to help.

All the fancy dieting in the world won't help if you can't stick to it.

Could you have some kind of surgery? I'm carrying too much weight at 13st, do you struggle to exercise at that weight? Perhaps start some more exercise classes such as circuits or boxercise?

I was about your weight this time 3-4 years ago. 12 stone now, didn't follow any kind of strict diet (other than not eating like a fat ****) and all my exercise is cycling. Good luck, you can do it 🙂 Easier to stick to if you keep a normal diet and don't eat too much, may take a lot longer though as I have found out.

Good luck mate - I take it your weigh in was for a pre-op assessment ?

My brother had recently what appears to be the same as you, but unfortunately it took 2 or 3 ops to sort it out. Finger crossed his ol' ticker is nice and regular again. He's back at the gym for an hour and half every day, so I guess everything is fine.

lawmanmx and idave, i have started it already, but struggling with the no carbs already.

if you struggle to 'diet' maybe try a different approach? the only way i could shed fat was to use 'intermittent fasting'. wife does it now too. theres different methods. either eat normally in an 8hr window, zero calories for the remaining 16 (youll find you eat less), or....do 24hr fasts, twice a week. sounds savage but its actually quite easy when you get started. once youve finished tea, zero cals til tomorrow tea.
eat normally when you are eating. and youll obviously only consume 5 sevenths of what you would have done each week. i found its far easier than eating smaller meals, counting calories, greeen days/red days/sins etc.

may not be for you, but have a google, theres loads of info on it. sounds unhealthy but it actually appears to be the opposite and theres links to show it can improve some health issues such as diabetes.

best of luck.

Hey Ton. Going to risk a slating but what the eck'...
Weigh****chers. Working for me. Online tracker that's a doddle to use. Meetings...take them or leave them. Mostly women, but usually just pop along to get weighed. Had a few snear & take the mick, but its working. Hardest part is eating enough at first...!!! 🙂
Drop me an email if you want boring some more.
I'm sure some GP's can refer you so you save the fees.

Best of luck - hope they get some control of it this time. Would be really great to know you can get on top of it and get back to some sort or normality.

I'll mail you at some point - I've loads of questions about AF (having been newly diagnosed).

And good luck with the iDiet. It's a good way of doing it whilst not being able to move around much.

Tom

Ton, try my cottage ipie, it's delicious and pie!

Cottage pie mince as per normal, but stick plenty of carrots in then top with mashed butter bean, cauliflower and turnip and bake. After eating it a few times you forget it's not potato.

Good luck mate.

Ton.

You've been watching the iDave/Diet thing going on here on STW for ages now.

I think you know what you have to do.
Only question is, how much do you want it ?.
iDave made a good point, again.
It is not a no carb diet.
It is a low GI diet which still has plenty of carbohydrate, for the Zillionth time.
😉

Dave got himself sorted...
Dave went the MDA route, but I think the results are impressive.
I have found that there is a crossover between iDiet and MDA.
So I've selected what I want from both.

I may end up hating myself/others for this...
iDave, could you send me some info on the diet?

I'm wanting (and struggling) to shift a chunk of beer gut - could ideally do with dropping a stone (5'9", 13.5 stone). I'm a very active runner, biker and kayaker but also eat like a horse and don't always pay attention to exactly what I'm chucking down my neck...

emsz, no worries, i got myself into a bad way, i will try and get myself out.

solo, or anyone with any idea, i have been reading about the paleo diet on the link posted.
on the idiet there is a no fruit rule and you can eat pulses, yet on the paleo diet it appears to be the opposite.
can anyone explain why?

Don't diet, waste of time, just watch the amount of rubbish your eating, which must be quite a lot.

Ditch the bike and go running will burn more calories quicker.

differing theories about what makes you fat. ithink iDave is concerned more about the sugars. Its not the conventional medical position but it is not daft and it is sustainable

ton, on the fruit thing, fructose, the fruit sugar, is dealt with quite differently by the body than other sugars and is more likely to lead to weight gain. The paleo stuff generally focuses on berries in season, but also doesn't account for how sweet fruit has been propagated nowadays compared to the past. It also emphasises a lot of low level exercise as well - long daily walks and so on

Hey Ton.

Worth throwing some weight training into the mix.

Provided the ticker will take it do squats, deadlift & benchpress.

If you can get your big muscle groups working hard regularly you will speed up your resting metabolism significantly, so you'll be burning more all the time.

Also, the endorphins are good, your shape will change faster & you'll feel more positive.

And at 22 stone you'll be strong already!

Why, in the face of independant evidence/anecdotal evidence on here, do you resist the iDave diet so much?

I agree with iDave, after all, he has the Knowledge
🙂

Especially wrt to Fructose.
I had already read a bit about HFCS, but the vid iDave linked to the other day was very good watching, imo.
Dealing with the sugar in its natural state and with what man does with it.
It either scares you or hacks you off something awful.

Anyway. If you go back a bit, you'll see that I have followed a semi paleo, semi iDave plan.
I do not do the fruit thing, I don't really agree with Mark on that and its for the reasons iDave points out.
Man has husbanded fruit now to such a level of sweetness, that it probably wouldn't be recognizable to our ancestors.
Way too much sugar in it, Fructose.
Then consider that the human body doesn't really like fructose, and thats all I need to say no to fruit.
If you can't see your long term future living without fruit.
Then at least give it up for a few months while you focus on your weight reduction, you can always revisit the fruit issue later.

I know its a difficult one to get your head around.
At least in the UK, we've been brained washed with the theory that fruit can do no wrong, fruit is wonderful and all that.
I'm, just suggesting you give it a miss.
You'll still get your vits and mins from other stuff.
I promise you, I haven't eaten hardly any fruit during the last two years, like one punnet.
And I suffer no ill effect from this lack of fruit in my diet.

I also agree about the exercise thing.
iDave suggested walks, moderate hikes, etc.
Mark claims to go for a short hike somedays, when hes not in the gym.

Get your weight down first of all, with a range of meals and new eating habits that you are capable of sustaining, indefinately.

This should see your weight drop at which point, then discuss your heart issues and exercise goals with your Doc.
Is what I'd do.
Ultimately you should exercise, but I think iDave is right to question what and to which level of intensity you should try for, in light of your particular health issues.

Good luck.
iDave is a good guy, he helps alot.
See if you can contact him off Forum.
We'd all like to see you get over this.
But you're going to be doing all the work.
It'll be well worth it though.

ton - what sort of stuff do you eat, at what intervals and what quantities?

I'm not going to bang on about my diet again, but I have a set of foodgroups and eating habits that I employ, are tasty and don't mean cutting out all the nice stuff - it always works for me (11st 5lbs - from 13st 7lbs in a few months and previously been 15st 7lbs)
