Crackers.
you must be! good luck. train it as much as you can........
What's he going to rescue?
Not next door's cat, that's for sure...
Spaniels are great fun - most are daft as brushes but still cracking dogs!
pics please!!
Really miss my one.
Er, given you've got a bit of beef in your ticker, I did worry this was another, rather more sinister, form of erm "body art"....
But it seems to mean you have a dog.
Nice 😀

Brilliant! 😛
Me too.
A colleague of my wife decided she wanted to get rid of her Springer.
Sophie was kept outside, was not walked (because she pulls on the lead), and was pretty much left to amuse herself.
She asked my wife for help in rehoming Sophie, but unfortunately gave Sophie to the first person who agreed to take her last Sat. On Sun morning, less than 24 hrs later, we got a call from the "new owners" saying they couldn't cope - she was hyperactive and was chewing her tail. Asked if they'd taken her for a walk, the answer was no...
The outcome is that we've taken her in untill her forever home is found.
She'll make someone a wonderfull pet. But would not be suitable for a first time owner due to high energy and lack of training. She is very calm and gentle about the house.
If there are any takers, or you know of anyone looking for a dog let me know, as this became her third home within a 24 hr period, a homecheck will be required.

Spaniels are ace!! I have a rescue spaniel and he is the best biking companion, he always wants to go regardless of the weather or time and can be counted on to be enthusiastic about it even if the rain is lashing down sideways.
They are fantastic dogs but can be very busy. They do not require hours of running everyday, they do need to run but they are very intelligent so need brain work as much as running(games, training, tricks etc). Enjoy and where are the pics!!!?
Spaniels pull on the lead, it's in their genes and part of the job description. Forget Crufts obedience and all is well.
Hide and seek is a good game. Hide yourself once you're confident with the dog off the lead. Hide toys inside/outside.
Remember that 90% of a spaniel's brain is devoted to it's nose and you'll be fine.
I have a 8yr old rescue Springer, 3 homes before us we got him at about 4.5 yrs.
He's a nutter and at times I can see why people have become frustrated with him. his last owner got rid because he was too dirty for the house but the one before that paid for him to go into boarding kennels for a year.
If anyone is interested see NESSR.NET they are a local springer resuce near me and are always inindated with springers and working cockers looking to rehome. They are based nr Newcastle but have dogs in foster homes across the country.
We have a fairly basic aprroach to him now though - 2 good maybe 3 good walks throughout the day (proper walks with tennis ball lobbing and swimming in the sea) keeps him very content in the house especailly in the evenings. If that doesnt work get them something like a filled kong to entertain their minds. Its a fairly basic principle - tire them out and they are great, dont tire them and they will frustrtate you and cause problems.
Best dogs ever IMO
Interestingly we tried through NESSR but they procrastinated. A lot.
Mrs Bullheart has experience of springers, so we knew what we were getting into. Seems to have settled in very well with the other hound, and there are only a few issues, primarily the 'growling' and muttering when asked to do something he doesn't want to do. But I have a fair amount of experience with dogs, and I'm enthusiastic too, so with luck we'll sort it soon.
Snores like a bugger though. Farts all the time, and has a strange dispensation for smiling by curling his lips, thus rendering him to look genuinely 'passive-aggressive'...!
I have had 4.At once! 1 was good, 2 was company for 1, 3 was only 50% more trouble and thus the 4th was even less trouble. Down to one now after 15 years and he is 13. I seem to remember that there is a SS rescue organisation nationwide and they put me on to the last 3 we had. Last 2 were ex field trial dogs that didn't quite make the grade. Both were first class off the lead, perfect with Dads sheep and lambs but not keen on the pig! They can behave given decent training, watch any field trial. Its a good job Sophie is a long way away or she would be #5
Oh yeah. Do NOT let farty old springers eat 4 onion bajee's. In the winter when its too cold ot open the windows 😯

We got ours from the NWESSR. She is Kates 4th springer and 3rd from them. We did wait for ages but it is because they try to make sure they get the right home for the dog - rehome it right the 1st time.
Just shown Sophie to her and there is temptation there. But I am starting my own business (just finished a PhD) and she is a 4th year vet student so we really can't take on another just yet (we also have a cat she rescued on placement last summer). She is not allowed to look at the NWESSR site as she's take em all!
We are very lucky in we have a very placid and well behaved spaniel. Absolute nutter outside but very calm in the house and travels very well. She just has OCD about light bulbs and bags of potatoes.
Has Sophie been rehomed yet or are you keeping her?
Sophie is still with us and looking for her new home.
She has come on well in the week she has been with us. She is clean in in the house, has gained in confidence, is very calm and spends most of her time sleeping in her new surroundings - so much for the hyperactive tail chewing dog !
She is very calm around other dogs, one or two have shown some signs of aggression and she simply ignores them. She's an absolute dream, asleep at my feet as I type this.
Amazing what a little bit of excercise can do 8)
