Sell it, it'll have some worth.

$1400/oz so I'd talk to a jeweller and get a valuation for the metal value.

If it's platinmum then probably worth a bit, weight dependent.

I'd throw it back in.

Actually no I wouldn't, I'd flog it and go on holiday with the money.

How can you say that - it depends on the weight of the metal, not an arbitrary figure you have made up.

I reckon if I can get over a £100 for its going.
Anything less and I might be sentimental. To be honest I'd probably swap it for a Greggs on the way back if I was hungry.

Take it to a proper dealer, by that I mean a jewellery supplies shop that sells gold/ silver etc, they will probably buy scrap too. - you'll get the proper price there.

The current scrap value for platinum is £632 an ounce.

Threw my ex's engagement ring into a moorland tarn a few yrs back. Bit silly really as the price of scrap jewellery went through the roof shortly afterwards!

Think my platinum ring cost circa £350, and that was before high street premium is added. So a STW figure plucked out of the blue, I'd say £100 😀

A friend of ours chucked her pretty sizeable and expensive engagement ring in the Thames near Eton when she got divorced. Probably never to be seen again... what a waste!

Had to have our platinum rings valued for the house insurance a few months ago.
Mine was valued at £1800 and my wifes £1200.
I suspect you may be in for a shock ;o)

Right I've got my bike bling scales in my bag ready to take to work in the morning ready to get a weight then I'll have a walk over to the jewellers and see what they have to say....

A shock would be well received at this stage!

@ Ste_t

Different sized fingers mean different weight rings = different costs....

She'd be scary if she had fingers as big as mine!

Will be well over a ton matey, more like 300 at a guess. Depends how chunky the ring is but a mans wedding ring in platinum will be a fair bit. As has been said, get a few quotes.

That's an insurance valuation, not really what they're worth.

I recently bought wedding rings, the largest size and largest width was just over £1k.

Best thing, pop it onto some good scales, and check out scrap value for weight.

Two different types of platinum (999 & 950). Get a loupe and read the hallmark

http://www.hattongardenmetals.com

Are known to pay reasonable prices and have a calculator should you know the weight in grams.

14 years in actually and would love to do one!

Got it on the scales this morning and its weighing in at 9g

Good news and Bad though.

Bad News - Its actually white gold as its got 750 stamped on the inside. I've got a terrible memory and don't do jewellery!

Good News - according to the Hattongardens link above its worth £165.51

RESULT and they can even pay you via paypal so I can cut out the middle man and buy bike stuff straight from you lot!

Pity it wasn't platinum, I lost my platinum wedding ring in the garden (yes, it really was ) and a quote to replace it was nearly a grand!

You wnot want to reuse that ring so sell it. Same way you don't use the same best man. His opening line in the speech was "half of you can go to the bar now, as you've heard it before."
Yeah that didn't last.

Have it melted down and remade as a really nice headtube badge for your favourite bike.

Otherwise definitely the coke and hookers route...

@gravitysucks - Great thread, I never thought of selling it. I need to find mine (Decree Absolute received in Feb) - I would get great pleasure in selling it and spending the money on something useful.
