This morning I completed my cycle challenge. 200 miles over 32 hours, 26 hours actual cycling. I had no sleep for the whole time. I am pleased that I done it, but knackered. This was a challenge for me,but also to try and raise money for teenage cancer trust and cancer research UK
Nice work.
really well done OP. I'm doing the CRUK 300 miles in September thing and spread over a month 200 miles seems daunting, let alone in just over a day. Chapeau
Good effort.
A bit of willy-waving may be justified in this case, nice one.
Well at least give us the link to your sponsorship page 😀
Good man.
Well done.
TCT is always my choice when I do charity rides.
sometimes punctures can be a pain, but 6 hours!? 🙂
link us up to yer charity page
Righteous dude.
Well done great achievement.
I had to stop for eating 😀. Did have two punctures on the way back! I started at midnight monday. My route was - Bristol to Gloucester, then much marcle (Weston's cider, wasn't open, to early), onto hereford, targarth upto the brecon beacons onto meythr tyd. Skipped Cardiff, went via Caerphilly to Newport then over the bridge back home

Great effort well done. Looks like a good route too. I once did 300km that was tough enough! My old bones wouldnt let me these days.
Well done!
If you enjoyed doing a long distance ride then maybe consider doing some audaxing. There is a vibrant audax club in Bristol with events runnuning from 100km to 1000km+
I have ridden audaxes for about 15 years but have got more into it over the past year and am on the verge of completing the Randoneur round the year challenge which requires a 200km or longer ride each calendar month.
Many of these have been in the area that you rode.
Audax may have an image of old blokes old heavy steel bikes but it is not (totally) like that and is a great, cheap way of getting out riding socially and has lots of challenges if you want them. Link to the ride calendar below.

Yep. Additionally, I don't know if it's full yet but the LVIS Jaeger bomb audax is on Saturday. 300km, and a ride to and from the start will take me over 200 miles.

Let's be honest. It's the two-wheeled equivalent of stamp collecting.
Lol - I did say it had an image problem. I thoroughly enjoy it and challenging myself - maybe not for those who want to live out their Wiggins/Froome/Thomas fantasies though.
Anyway back to the OP - was this 300 miler something you rode alone or part of an organised ride?
well done mate. good effort.
i rode 100 mile on friday, training up for a 240 mile audax ride.

TBH if I was in an area where audaxes were more popular - and not so restricted by climate/weather- I'd probably be sucked in. I've enjoyed a few longer rides, especially the night sections.
It was the first time attempting to do that many miles in one go, as done 120 miles in a day. But went the extra mile and I think going at it with no sleep that long was the real struggle and had to ride main roads as streetlights helped to keep me awake. Really achy now, legs and uncomfortable in areas. So how do I get round it, I think if I do something like it again then to stay somewhere overnight would help as couldn't get comfortable for last 20 odd miles home
Bravo. Not a flat 200 either!
Coincidentally, I was watching some films on you-tube by a Bristol Audax rider only yesterday.
Can't remember his name but the 400 one is worth a watch. (imo)
I have to confess the Audax thing is starting to appeal to me more and more & lol at Scotroutes.
I did a 300km audax a couple of months ago so a bit shorter than your 200 miles and had to ride into the night. The final section was on quite isolated lanes. I rode the last 40km with another chap and doing so makes things easier as you can agree on navigation, have more visibilty than a single rider and have some redundancy in terms of lighting.
I have been using my Exposure light which I bought for mountain biking - it is great but the fact that it cannot be rechared on the road does cause me concern (you have plenty of time to worry night riding) do I have just bought a Busch and Mueller Ixon Premium which uses rechargable AA batteries - these can be swapped out for standard AA's if required on the road.
I am thinking about entering the 300km audax below which starts from Bristol at 10pm and goes to Poole harbour and back - should be a good test of night riding skills and lights.

Re. the last leg being difficult this is pretty standard in my experience and seems to apply regardless of distance. It seems to be a mental thing (at least for me) which effects me far more if riding alone than if I am in a group.
If you (op) want to try audax then there is a great 100km from Bristol which crosses the M5 bridge, calls in at Clevedon, goes up Cheddar Gorge, through Ashton Court and over the suspension bridge - see below.

That's a good effort. Well done OP.

I doubt he has the strength currently.

Why not do a DIY? Drag a couple of mates along.
I'm sure you know a few suitable routes. 🙂
A handy one is a Dingwall/Ullapool/Ledmore/Tain/Dingwall loop - almost bang on 200km.
Or Inverness to Thurso via Lairg and Bettyhill.
Both nice rides if the wind keeps down, and more interesting if it doesn't.
Isn't a DIY Audax just called a "ride"? I've done some longer rides- JOG to Inverness (via Tongue), Campbelltown to Inverness on NCN78. I do enjoy the night riding part, especially the contrast between small towns and the longer quiet roads between them.
OP - well done on completing your first 200 miler. I found that I could maintain a 10mph overall average if I was careful about minimising stopped time. I also found that longer stops made it difficult to get going again.
You'll have a dynamo hub on your Xmas list?
Let’s be honest. It’s the two-wheeled equivalent of stamp collecting.
They're getting more and more popular, certainly in the South East, and are appealing to a much more diverse set of riders.
If stamp collecting involved constantly licking stamps on a hillside in the rain until your tongue started to bleed meaning you couldn't eat any more cake, then yes, it's similar.
Bump. I have fully recovered now, it was a big challenge for me both mentally and physically. If you wish to donate, would be very much appreciated.
