My wife had a letter through today from DVLA telling her she needs to update the photo on the photocard part of her driving licence. For this, she'll need to pay the princely sum of twenty quid.

Given that, as I understand it, many people still have a plain paper licence with no extra photo card, and that there is no requirement for these people to change is this anything other than a 'make-work' scheme or money spinner for DVLA?

My driving licence is ye olde paper version which I last changed in 1992 when I moved house. Expires in 2036 IIRC 🙂

I had my licence 'reissued' to take some speeding camera points off....... All OK, then a few weeks later got the same letter as your Mrs.

V annoying to have to pay twice, not exactly joined up thinking.

Are you sure it's not the licence renewal?

They only last 10 years now

We had to get new licences last year after a burglary. Not covered by insurance as its a document. Mine came back with one year to run and I've recently had to pay for another. My class one runs out in 18 months so I'll get stung again. Don't drive hgv so may let it lapse.
