Natural progression, following on from the Lockdown Rave thread. Not in chronological order, just what I think still sounds good. Post as you see fit!

That 'coffee' tune was mind blowing at the time and still is. One of my personal faves.
Heres a contribution from around the same time and in a similar vibe to the Orca tune .
Not 100% jungle throughout but got a copy of this last week:

Dreamy sunday vibe
I think I posted this before on a different thread:
Natural progression
Logical Progression, Shirley?
I loved Goldies 90's Jungle mix on Six Music the other week, class.

I've never really known and given up caring the differences between jungle/drum-n-bass/etc/etc so here's this from the end of A1 Sound Carrier - a mix CD by DJ Tonic on Emotif Recordings.
Missed this off my list.
This because........
Natural progression
Logical Progression, Shirley?
Yes it did cross my mind.
Logical Progression, Shirley?
Erm, +1 ... or Logical Progression 2
not quite jungle but the second drop on this is

Always thought of the Garage scene as a downgrade from what preceded it, but the original Double 99 Ripgroove is one of few tunes I was jealous of, a certified banger.
Logical Progression isn't really jungle though. Some of the breaks are a bit jungley but lacking the lyrics or loops of reggae / ragga. Bukem was an early junglist I guess but you gotta really think Goldie / Ruffige Cru or perhaps some early Hype sets from back in the day.
Jungle was always a bit of a risk in the early days. Spot the white face. Try to avoid the gangs, getting shot or someone CS gassing the crowd for fun. Still, rather that than the awful happy hardcore that essentially divided the rave crowd when that died down. Happy Hardcore VS jungle. I know where I was.
Like the fact that there's been a bit of a resurgence of jungle in the last couple of years.
Recently I've been right into AMC and Turno. Currently blasting Luude's Remix
I started with Jungle before really getting into D&B but from getting into D&B the lines between the two blurred. That said they are quite different IMHO.
The Anais and Lens sets on this Degscast are

More D&B than Jungle but with a few Jungle toons thrown in:
Wicked set...
thank you, thank you, thank you!
Always liked Jungle but didn't know anything about it or anyone really into it so didn't know where to start and never pursued it.
This thread had given me some inspiration to listen to more and learn about it more!
A.M.C is a bit of a mentalist full 4 deck mixing - it must be exhausting being him 🙂
thread needs moar amen

Hell yeah. The guy bounces more than the crowd for his entire set! I missed out on seeing him not too long ago when foreigners were allowed to visit!

If I remember right Logical Progression was a compilation of artists creating distance between the original Jungle sound, with what was initially prefixed Intelligent and later would fall under the Drum and Bass umbrella as we now know it. It was a bit confusing at the time (and now) because some tracks blur the lines, with tech sounding Jungle, like I have posted, often being referred to as Drum and Bass or Intelligent Jungle. Eventually DnB distanced itself from Jungle by mostly dropping the sampled drum breaks, the tuned 808 basslines, Ragga/Dancehall/Reggae influences, settled on faster BPM's and fragmented into further sub genres.
I've not yet posted any of the proto tracks because like the Lockdown Rave thread I wanted to start with the best and strongest examples of the genre, without getting too bogged down by the sub genres, hybrids and disputed terminology. The sort of influential tracks the Goldie, General Levy and Roni Size type audience don't know about and some of you will have forgotten!
This is jungle;
This is drum n bass
And this, in the opinion of this old school junglist and grimey garage head, is the best YouTube set ever.
DJ Sherelle Boiler Room set from a couple of years back, mixing old school jungle vibes with 160 bpm footwork and ghettotech from Detroit and Baltimore.
There's even a jungle remix of RIP Groove in the middle of the set for you chestercopperpot, (trust me, it goes off!)
A bit gimmicky with all the Cape Fear samples but.....
Concurrent.
Let Me Boot Your Fantasy
The DJ Mayhem one got me thinking of this, played at the wrong speed like Fabio ised to.
Pitching up was common BITD. Pitch control on a turntable was pretty limited, with no time stretch. So you were somewhat penned in, without reverting to cuts or it sounding silly in a mix of other tracks!
Double and halftime (like Dubstep) was a thing even then.
'Babylon' by Splash is the perfect example of how timestrtching influenced the transition from jungle to dnb.
House music happened when they sped up disco, techno was electro on speed, Jungle came about by pitching up breakbeat rave music, timestrtching slowed it down again. Speed garage came about by...well, the clues in the name and grimey garage and dubstep came about by playing dnb at the wrong speed.
Yes Chester, my turntables spent a fair bit of their time with the slider at plus or minus 10, with the occasional drag of the finger or push of the platter thrown in.
Turns out that Ros Atkins ran drum and bass nights in Brixton in a former life.
I really enjoyed this only a few days left before it expires.
Still quality.
Big shout out to the textin crew. Hold tight the one like 5675.. Biggups to the DTI locked in.
Ignore the record label it's Deeper Life.
Foul Play doing Jungle Techno
Sad to hear of MC Skibadee's passing. A true legend.
Just heard about this now 😔
I used to know Smokey Joe when he lived in Newcastle, before he moved back down to London. I was best mates with his brother. His other brother, Toby was one half of rude and deadly
I remember way before jungle, sitting in their attic listening to Rap, rare groove and dancehall. Their mates used to post up pirate era rodigan kiss fm tapes. Happy, happy days.
Slipped under the radar
Man like a remote control
