Looking to set up a "jukebox/music station" in the living room. Currently got mp3s on a hard drive (which hardly get listened) to so looking for an easier way to play them than through the computer. Also thinking some digital radio could also be good.
Don't know much in the way of what is out there or the best way to do it so looking for suggestions. Currently thinking along the lines of Ipod with a docking station with built in digital radio. Don't have any apple products at the moment but i guess they can't be bad (apart from the prices) for music playing given how prominent they are and the number of docks there are for them compared to other players. I believe you now get wireless/wifi/bluetooth speakers which could be another option...
Did wonder if there was something that could link/run from the TV to improve sound from it (32" samsung flat screen)? A sort of media center/one stop shop type thing?
Any setup suggestions / recommendations?
Not exactly meeting your requirement, but I just got one of these
and it's bloody brilliant for the size
I have a Bose Sounddock 10 with Bluetooth, this allows me to either listen to music stored on ipod or stream from Spotify all via Bluetooth.Works with non Apple products also. The sound is amazing and room filling even at low volume. Take a look at Bose website not sure if they do 30 day money back trial still.
Going down the Apple route does give you the option of AirPlay, which is a wifi-based system of streaming the audio from the main computer to satellite speakers or dock units, a Mac Mini is the obvious start point, then you can stream to active speakers plugged into AirPort Extreme units dotted around the house. It can be controlled from an iPhone/iPod Touch using the Remote app, which is pretty much my setup, although I haven't bothered with extra speakers.
Sonos is another alternative, that lots on here use. Neither is particularly cheap to start with, but once set up, is very easy to live with. My Mini sits under one corner of my Bravia telly, which is the monitor, and the audio is handled by my Yamaha a/v amp, via an optical TOSLink from the computer headphone socket. Makes it an easy system to use, just switch on the amp, select Remote, and choose whatever I want to play. I usually only put the telly on to use it when I'm ripping CDs, or downloading music from artist websites.
You could look for Internet radios, some of which allow streaming audio from computers, IIRC.
I'm sure there are other options, which will probably be detailed fairly soon. 😀
cheers for the suggestions. Been having a nose around and now thinking a home cinema type system may be the way to go. Given a lot of these now allow connectivity with bluetooth/wifi/usb. Could be the one stop shop I'm looking for.
