trying to open what is a jpeg image in photoshop, that I have scanned in.

Can't open, and comes up with this message:

"Could not open 'file name' because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found"

What? Any help would be great!

corrupted file or it's not a jpeg and the file suffix is wrong - although PS should just cope with that.

Just re-scan it.

You on a Mac? Try opening it in Preview and doing a save as, then open it in Photoshop. I get this problem sometimes with TIFFs.

Make sure you have the following extension:

.jpg
Sometimes this gets lost on the way!
Can you R click it and bring up Properties?
Is there anything there?
Can you see it in My computer?

Try these and we'll go from there...

Ti29er - Thanks for that. it does have a .jpg file name, and when i bring up properties it says it's a Jpeg. I can basically open the file up with any photo software apart from photoshop...

I did some technical stuff just now, which involved opening teh file in paint, then saving as a .tif file. This now opens in photoshop, think I may have fixed it?

I suspect the file was probably always a TIF, and as footflaps suggested it was just the file extension was wrong.

It would be pretty unusual for scanning softweare to save a scan as a JPG (since you almost always want to edit a scan to tidy it up a bit).
