One wonders if it's target fixation rather than malicious/drink/drugs or distraction....in the same way that folk on the motorway often plow into recovery trucks lit up like Xmas trees.....(my mates a recovery truck driver - more common issue than you'd think )
This is the reason why my brother in Michigan refuses to ride on the road - he says you will definitely be knocked off by a distracted texting SUV driver or deliberately by a redneck in a pickup.
