I know there were a lot of haters, but I really liked the last on.
Any excuse for a trip to the big screen 🙂
saw this trailer earlier. looks like it could be good.
i enjoyed the first. Should probably re-watch it at some point!
I'm in.
That looks good. First one was excellent.
Have they decided on whether it is a musical or not yet? They do seem to be very cagey about it.
Anyone here seen it? My Son went last Friday and loved it. He’s amazed at the negative reviews it’s been getting. Kermode and Mayo think it’s better than film #1.
I'm intrigued, all of the negative reviews seem to be too negative....
Seeing it Friday. No spoilers! Joaquin Phoenix ... can't go wrong in my book.
Will probably watch it at somepoint when it's free on streaming - the first one was kinda like someone who saw falling down & thought D-FENS was the good guy.

One review I found postulated that some demographics watched the first one as a comic book movie where the downtrodden little guy rose up to be the hero of the film. You were supposed to perhaps have some sympathy for his situation early on but you weren't supposed to root for him in the end (c.f. Walter White?). And that demographic doesn't like musicals either.
I thought it was fantastic,Joaquin Phoenix is great and Gaga is also excellent.
Spoiler ...If you are going to see a Gotham comic book movie, you may be very disappointed.
I suspect this is why there were negative reviews.

Not in the traditional way, but(I felt) the songs were used as an alternative dialogue and (IMO) work very well.
I’m halfway through it and whilst finding it a struggle (reconciling issues of isolation, depression and mental health) but its incredible acting and a great story.
Just like the first film it is definitely not from the comic book version of the “Batman universe” but a darker 1970’s grimy New York vibe.
And that demographic doesn’t like musicals either.
Beautifully described as 'incel adjacent' in a podcast this morning.
Went to see it on Sunday with MrsDb, great acting, great cinema, great filming but as a film to go & see very disappointing spent the whole time waiting for something to happen, just didn't stack up as a film. PS - we're not fans of marvel comic genre films either, loved the first one though.
I’m halfway through it…
Did you post on a toilet break? Weird!
I liked it. I’d never go and watch a musical (was dragged along to A Star is Born and absolutely hated it), but the singing mostly worked for me. It was only when they broke into the big number with Gaga playing the piano, that it broke the magic of being involved in the film and I couldn’t help but think… Ah they got Lady Gaga to play Harley, then she sang something and they thought wow, we must include more singing! I wonder if Joaquin will…
but mostly I went along with it and Joaquin again was utterly brilliant.
