Have a bit of arthritis in my hands. Bit stiff first thing (oo err) but then fine. Now getting a bit of pain in elbow joints creeping in.

Docs will be a thing at some point, but mostly i think this is just old age creeping up on me at 51

Anyone recommend any supplements that actually work? Cod Liver Oil, Turmeric, Jointace etc?

Well a quick google of the phrase “do joint suppliments actually work” would indicate that the answer is no. Not only that but some evidence that it could make things worse!

What you take to help any given problem depends on what's actually wrong. Joint pain is a symptom of something. Isn't arthritis an auto-immune condition?

Nothing wrong with asking a medical professional to rule out any systemic inflammatory causes.

If it is osteoarthritis then the only 'supplement' with any actual evidence behind it is strength and range exercises

I understand a different kind of joint may have the desired effect....

Osteoarthritis is wear and tear. Rheumatoid arthritis is autoimmune

I have a bit of osteoarthritis. Supplementing increased the pain

Keep moving is the key. Seen in in older relatives, keep going, if you don't you are screwed. Broke spine 6 years ago. Can be really painful, I keep going.

Remember, pain isn't a bad thing - keeping mobile helps it, and, as you say, once moving you are OK. It's age as well, 52 here, but more active than my 21 and 19 year old by a mile.

Osteoarthritis is wear and tear.

I prefer the phrase 'unhealthy joint'. Wear and tear could imply that you should stop using the joint so that you don't damage it further, whereas this is more likely to do considerably more damage. Joints need to be regularly moved and optimally loaded to stay healthy

My in-laws swear by Rosehip capsules.

However, I stopped eating refined sugar and found within a week or two my sore ankles and knees (nothing major but 20 years of football damage meant I couldn’t stand up without a lot of groaning) felt the best they had in decades.

Glucosamine works for the dog. I don’t know if that’s useful.

I find that taking one Cod Liver Oil tablet each morning stops that nagging pain* without causing any side effects and taken with my first cup of coffee in the morning ius an easy thing to include in my life.

*the nagging pain is Mrs WCA who insists this stuff works for her and, even though I can see no difference, also insists that it must work for me and gets quite irate when I deny this.
