simply brilliant...................
Change from a Durex machine?
i concur.
'nuff said
nearly brings a tear that cheesyfeet...awesome track.
One of my faves. Very haunting. Makes me feel slightly wobbly even when I just play the tune on guitar too
Seriously, not a "look at me statement" but I just dont get him, think its 5hite.
life is such mate.. 8)
Uncle played me this when I was about 8/9 loved him ever since:
It does bring a tear from me! I love his own tunes and his take on traditional songs as well. Can't beat Wreck of the Old '97, Fulsom Prison Blues, Big River, Don't Take Your Guns to Town are all too fantastic for words.
yes indeed , too fantastic for words.
pure emotion, truth and honesty in ryhthm
Love long black veil

Yes...
dont laugh, but i love this too.
Genius 😀
Awesome. Whatever of his songs. "Get rythm when you get the blues". Is one of the best pick me up songs I know.

Had the pleasure to see him in a concert with Waylon Jennings as well as one with the Highwaymen (Cash, Jennings, Kristofferson, Nelson). Probably among the best concerts I have ever seen--those guys had a presence.
TLR: yer a bit jonny come come lately if you ask me.
you do know he's been dead almost 10 years now don't you?
now, what ever happened to my 'Country music is dead' t-shirt.... 🙁
I remember listening to him on my Dads 8-track....
I'm with kingkongsfinger.
Yep, never found his stuff to be anything other than awesome. One of those I really wish I'd had a chance to see live. The Joaqin Phoenix film is worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it.
I honestly have no idea why people like this music. Seriously, I'm not having a go, I just can't figure it out.
The music is so simplistic and samey I just can't get excited over it.
molgrips-simplistic and samey
seems perfect for you chap! 😆
molgrips, who do you like?
molgrips - MemberI honestly have no idea why people like this music
Well, its like this, different people like different stuff... Why don't you list some of what you like and I'll be equally as baffled!
I came to Cash late, even though many people were telling me to listen. Eventually got him when I got a freebie CD out of a Sunday paper, the movie helped as well.
He influences still !
I know we like different stuff. I just don't know why you like that!
What do I like? Hard to say. Last album I rocked out to was the best of Creedence
Creedence? Pah, I love Creedence, shit, try again!
Takes a genius to do this with a Sting song.
I just don't know why you like that!
Well personally I love proper old school country. Always have.
You either get it or you don't.
We're all different. Add to that, our music tastes change and evolve. I cannot stand the smiths, but appreciate that lots like them, as Ton said, that is life.
Jonny is just amazing, if anything, his voice just continued to ripen.
Terrific stuff. Can't beat a bit of Cash.
Jonny is just amazing, if anything, his voice just continued to ripen.
I was just going to write something similar. The reason some of Cash's covers are so brilliant is purely down to the meaning (sometimes new) his voice could bring to a stripped back song. "Hurt" being possibly the best example (clichéd as that statement may be).
EDIT: and as Nobeer says, it ripened beautifully.
stevenmenmuir......that is fantastic. thanks 8)
Another version of Jackson.
Bob and Johnny.

it for me[/url]
I have to say it is slowly dawning on me he was a bloody genius. Really didn't get it until about 10 years ago, when you give it time it seeps in.
My 25 year old me just stabbed my eyes out for liking 'Country'
The Wanderer is great until Bonio does his bit of warbling after 4 minutes.
My parents were big c&w fans so I grew up listening to jonny cash. What a singer.
I too grew up listening to him. Went to Glastonbury in 93(ish). None of the group i went with wanted to go and see him but I went and he played Boy Named Sue, Jackson, Delias Gone etc. Brilliant. Most of my mates now realise they ****ed up big time that day.
Kris Kristofferson is a better song writer as is Guy Clarke and so was Townes Van Zandt but Cash could own any song.
Takes a genius to do this with a Sting song
Not only Sting but Bono as well, how do you measure that level of genius, it's off the scale.
