My god, bit late to see this clip, saw it while surfing some epic punk clips last night but, is there a more overbearing, opinionated, arrogant, weapons grade, god complexed cockwomble of a human on the entire planet?
Henry Rollins just looks like he'll explode with embarrassment and Marky Ramone does well not to flatten the ridiculous, butter-munching *wit!
So kind of him to allow the token female a couple of sentences eventually too, and so nice of him to compliment a female audience member on her tits.
I cannot stand seeing this bloke in any punk documentary that pops up but he's always wheeled out as if he's the only one that was there. What an arrogant and despicable character he is.
This line up is to do with the recent documentaries on Netflix where the origins are explored. A good watch if you've not seen.
YOU DIDN'T INVENT IT LYDON SO SIT THE * DOWN!
Sorry... and relax. 😠😉😂

Well, he got famous for acting like a ****, no idea whether that's what he's really like or he's just putting on an act (or maybe he's been putting on an act so long he no longer knows the difference), but I'd rather listen to his music than some lame talentless dick like Billy Joel.

Trump.
I do recall someone meeting Lydon backstage and he was pleasant and matey.
In front of the cameras he was transformed into a full blown monster just by having an audience.
I doubt he cares about anything much other than what's in the fridge these days; it's all a pantomime to keep himeself 'relevant'
Can’t sing for sh1t & barely a musician..
Always thought Strummer was better & Jones....well, in a different league again.
ever feel like you've been cheated?
Yes, yes I do..
You could be right, you could be wrong...
Anger is an energy...
Never mind, its all boll@cks
Next year we will have 54 opportunities to avoid him; he's doing a 'speaking' tour aka promoting a book.
I won't be buying one of the 5,000 signed copies.
His Lincoln gig has tickets '...from £30' with meet'n'greet at £75; that's a week's earnings in the area!
He needs the money.
Not for me.
He's coming to Carmarthen soon too. Not seeing him myself but I know some people that are. Not sure why though?
John Piedon?
Can I still enjoy Open Up?
@kayak23 Are you the guy who shouted "Lydon, you're shit!" at every opportunity when PIL were supporting the Roses a few years ago?
JP
No one beats Polly Styrene, her lyrics are probably more relevant now than ever, her vocals more visceral than the men, just wish I’d seen the X-Ray Specs live.
Let’s face it, no one has more to rebel against than a mixed race working class woman in the seventies.
C**ntry Life.
Can’t sing for sh1t & barely a musician..
Wasn't that the whole ethos of punk music?
I can forgive him for pretty much anything because of the music.

Yep he is definitely at the pointy end of a bell. But "Holiday's in the Sun" is one of the greatest songs ever and I forgive him for that alone.
In front of the cameras he was transformed into a full blown monster just by having an audience.

jkomo.
Cheers for posting that up.
Never seen in before.
Great viewing.
Whats the reference to Ian Astbury / The Cult?
@kayak23 Are you the guy who shouted “Lydon, you’re shit!” at every opportunity when PIL were supporting the Roses a few years ago?
No, wasn't me. Good idea though. 👍
Shame.i saw that a few months ago.It appears that since his long term partner has developed Alzheimer’s he’s started to drink. A lot. Quite sad really.
Anger certainly is an energy.
SSStu, glad you liked it.
Could be worse. Could be Morrisey
The Pistols were as much of a confected boy band as One Direction. Tell him that, the self-obsessed ladypart.
@eddiebaby did you link to Turquoise Days there, as well as PiL? Only it's something I've been listening to a lot recently and wondered if I'm only seeing that due to some YT algorithm.
I always thought PiL were WAY better than Pistols, though mostly in the 80s. When he was wheeled out a few years ago, it was obvious where all the talent had gone.
I thought he was hilarious!
The show was for entertainment purposes and I'm sure it entertained many.
dannyH - thats the point. Even thought you are being cheated? the great rock and roll swindle? Who did kill bambi?
Billy Joel , lame talentless dick ? Really , you may not like his music but he has more talent in his little finger than Lyndon .

He's the epitome of mediocrity. Dull and cliched. Sort of the musical equivalent of Tom Hanks.
John Lardon?
God save the Quorn?
When I was 16 met him in Cardiff before a PIL gig, I was completely starstruck and he was really cool to us. Warned us to watch out for idiots at the show, signed autographs and photos.
Whats the reference to Ian Astbury / The Cult?

There's something odd going on there, I got Gun / Word Up.

Gojira Global Warming (and then Mastodon viewing the thread a second time) here. YT thing, I guess. Listened to both of them recently.
I actually thought eddiebaby was making a link between the PiL track and Gojira's Global Warming, implying the former was somehow related to the latter. Not totally impossible as it turns out! (well, in my mind anyway!)
The link includes a "list" parameter which seems to work if you go directly to the URL but does something funky when it's embedded. From looking at the URL, I think he meant to link to this:
He’s a National Treasure, like the Queen or Nicholas Cage.
I love playing Pistols stuff and would like to be able to sing it like Lydon, but can't. Steve Jones really could play, pick up a guitar and you'll be impressed at how he found some licks and riffs that pretty much defined the punk guitar sound.
Like Noel Gallagher if you ignore the obviously provocative stuff he's worth a listen.

Much like Johnny, I really couldn’t give a **** what anyone else thinks.
CRASS - nice concept, great lyrics, worst music ever in history
Yeah but did anyone actually listen to Crass and moan about the state of the playing? Likewise, I never cottoned on to how good musicians people like Steve Jones or East Bay Ray actually were.
*Potters off to relearn the riff to Did You No Wrong for the umpteenth time*

He's pissed out of his head.
Banned from BBC
Just a "working class English" lad
When he comes off stage or out of the studio he can be who he wants.
I like him for some of the music.
He's not a mate of mind so his 'personality' doesn't bother me and I suspect he causes minimal harm to others on the planet.
Well said eddiebaby. I loved the pistols. They captured the **** you **** you all moment in my life perfectly.
He’s the epitome of mediocrity. Dull and cliched. Sort of the musical equivalent of Tom Hanks.
Maybe if the only song you know is Uptown Girl...
Don't really care about what he says these days as he's a bit off his head in most interviews, but reality is that he's in his mid 60s now, has a lot of personal issues and so on, and having spent nearly half a century of his life being someone else in front of the cameras he's not really going to stop now.
You have to give him some points though for the fact that he's actually changed his views over the years and actually comes out and states the stupidity of the times and what he did back then, a lot of them still live as if the world hasn't changed much.
He’s the epitome of mediocrity. Dull and cliched. Sort of the musical equivalent of Tom Hanks.
I would rate Lydon as like Nicholas Cage - completely unpredictable, moments of genius mixed up with a lot of weird stuff. Tom Hanks is like Billy Joel - safe, boring, predictable tripe for people who are afraid of anything challenging.
Christ. He's how I imagine a drunk Nigel Farage would be.
Which, by all accounts, is probably what he's going for.
I think its quite sad. He is such an important icon of the punk movement (if not THE icon) but over time he has overplayed the panto dame aspect. But as he's got older and more right wing its just become embarrassing.
The whole US vs UK "who invented punk" think is quite annoying as there is no true year zero so the argument just goes round and round. But i think its fair to say that UK punk was very much its own thing even if it did take some influences from the US. But then again we turned it into something newer which they took straight back and reinvented as hardcore so its always swings and roundabouts.
What Blackflag said.
I think the US vs UK think was is really just about who called it punk first and gets bragging rights, rather than who invented it.
Anyway, we all know that it all belongs to Iggy.
F*ck the haters , long live JR

Personally I felt the above was an emotional article which John opened up and gives a little more depth. I like him, but it doesn't mean I always agree with his views. How refreshing 😁
All I can think of when I see thols2’s post is “Ooh Sir...does she Sir...suit you Sir”
Massive punk fan,
Still occasionally listen to Sex pistols but prefer the ‘true’ English punk bands out there (subhumans, restarts, FOPI,spits etc)
As for CRASS being terrible music, well each to there own. Few ‘arty’ songs by eve libertine are not on my favourites play list.
Massive respect for CRASS tho as they still live by the punk ideals (you tube vid of some of the band members still living the life they preach, off grid, making money selling art etc)
not copy righting the logo allowing tshirt businesses make some coin.
Steve ignorant was a excellent front man,
“Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated”... yes, yes I do , JR was a revelation when I was an angry 16 year old. As I got more into the punk scene it was obvious the pistols was a manufactured boy band (entertaining yes)
Selling butter, ok every body needs make a living...
A recent vid of him endorsing trump was the final nail in the coffin.
I was too young for the original punk stuff. When it eventually crossed my musical radar in my early teens the pistols did nothing for me. Liked The Clash and was a big fan of The Dead Kennedy’s. Still am to this day come to think of it. Just love the demented vocal tones, surf guitar and lyrics that still hit home now. Police truck springs to mind given recent events in the US.
These last 4 years Crass have lifted me up and given me some fire in my belly.
I've needed them .
Kennedy’s my fave USA punk band, the words jello preached (trump) seem more relevant now than they did back then.
Kennedy’s are out there on there own, My No1 favourite USA punk band.
Jellos predictions are coming to fruition (trump?)
Apologies, Connections playing up.
Stage persona Innit giving people what they expect him to be like.
Really? Not on the last PIL tour and miserable old git reading from a lectern.. Reminds me of my youth of being forced to go to church every Sunday.
I walked out half way through the gig, couldn't stand his voice any longer. Take him out of the music and it would have been great...
I believe someone on Twitter described him as s butter shagging T$%+.
Guys just irrelevant now.
