Ah, bugger it, another sad departure. The Moodies meant a lot to me in the Seventies, and still do when I go into a deep nostalgia trip. Just leaves Justin as the last man standing from the original lineup.

They were only singers in a rock and roll band...

I was very recently listening to On the Threshold of a Dream, for the first time in years. I'd forgotten just how good it is.

The Moodies were one of the earliest prog bands that I got interested in, after King Crimson. I bought the first four or five albums, but then discovered Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant, Greenslade, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Tangerine Dream, and a whole raft of other bands, who rather made the Moodies seem a bit… wishy washy by comparison. I honestly haven’t listened to any of their music since the mid-seventies, I hadn’t even realised that any of the band were still actually playing live, so in a funny sort of way there’s something gratifying that he passed away suddenly at that age while on tour!

I think that’s the best possible epitaph for a musician, and something for his family to be proud of. 🫶🏻
