I have enjoyed some of his podcasts lately, but finding the good ones amongst the thousands is hard, Especially when you have never heard of most of the guests so have no idea of what the content might be like.
So, anyone got any recommendations for the best episodes? Numbers, Guest Names and general topics get extra points.
Guest name... everyone
Topic....martial arts , no matter what the subject does he steers the topic round to martial arts.
The Eddie izzard interview was basically Rogan telling one of the most interesting people on the planet all about his workout regime.
I do enjoy them, but with my limited attention span I tend to stick to the 10-15 min clips on YT.
He's friends with Alex Jones, tells you all you need to know.
I haven't listened to many but one I could happily relisten to is #668 with Jon Ronson, his stories are amazing (and hilarious)
The Louis Theroux grounded interview with Jon Ronson is also good
He’s friends with Alex Jones, tells you all you need to know.
Frankly this is part of the appeal. It's a great antidote to partisan way a lot of us think now because he's friends with Alex Jones, because he has the likes of Jorden Peterson and Ben Shapiro on and didn't just try to humiliate them people cry that he's a terrible right winger and everyone on the other side of the argument should hate him.
He says Alex Jones the 'personality' isn't the same as Alex Jones the pot-head, party loving Guy he knows, but that's not to say that he's not very right of centre (Jones, not Rogan) but he can talk to him and enjoy him company whilst not agreeing with him on every little thing.
Frankly, these days, it's wonderfully refreshing.
In a similar vein, I've never seen an MMA fight, I think his views on Covid and how to deal with it are selfish and small minded, but rather than turn it off and set my social media so there's never even a mention of his existence, I enjoy listening.
Avoid the comedian ones, they get a bit clique. The rest tend to be good, especially the MMA ones.
He had a really good one with a neuroscientist(Mathew Walker) about sleep habits and the effect they have on you.
The main appeal of the podcast nowadays for me is that he brings in big names and for the most part let’s them talk and interviews them in a 1h-3h format.
Jones isn't just right of centre though, he posted the addresses of families of sandy hook survivors while claiming they were deep state actors carrying out a hoax, which led to bereaved families being harassed by nut jobs. Why would you be friends with someone who does that?
Rogan thinks 'only pussies wear masks'
I've tried listening to Ben Shapiro and he seems full of the whiny victim complex that so many of these successful white men seem to share.
I get your point about the echo chamber but I'm yet to find a credible right wing viewpoint with something interesting to say.
Bill Burr, Louis Theroux, Elon Musk...
I get your point about the echo chamber but I’m yet to find a credible right wing viewpoint with something interesting to say.
Uncommon knowledge by hoover institution(conservative think tank). That is if you are actually open to a different opinion.
Like the interviews despite hating some of his points of view lifestyle.
I don't know a who a lot of the guests are so read the description and take a listen. Tom O'Neil being an ace one. Would never have found his book if I hadnt listened to the podcast
Recent listens that were enjoyable
#1511 - Oliver Stone
#1495 - Kyle Dunnigan
#953 - Shirley Manson
#1459 - Tom O'Neill
Lots of others, now they are on Spotify I can fill in the gaps between Audible credits for 3 hours a day commuting
Love the ones on UFO's, there are 3 main episodes; one with Bob Lazar, another with some retired fighter pilot who had close contact with two UFOs (the footage of the incident was what the NY Times released recently) and the final one with George Knapp, who is an investigative reporter but has also covered UFO stories in the past and was the one who broke the Lazar story. The ones on DMT are interesting, but it's really just random clips you can watch. One on my list is Sean M. Carroll, who is a well-known theoretical physicist specializing in quantum mechanics, gravity, and cosmology.
Yep, Alex Jones is a dick.
IMHO one of todays problems is that because Alex Jones is a dick, us non-dicks on this side of the fence refuse to even utter his name without cursing, we refuse to listen to anyone who gives him the time of day. We create an enemy of him, and in turn he and the people who agree with him and enemy of us. So the divide widens, the right goes further right, the left further left.
The ones with Mike Baker (ex-CIA) or Andy Stumpf (ex-Navy Seal) are quite eye opening...
Abigail Shrier is a scary one as the father of three pre teen girls.
Also Enjoyed, Mike Tyson, Bill Burr, Lance Armstrong, Brian Cox, Macauly Culkin, Dr Debra Soh
We create an enemy of him...So the divide widens
That is if you are actually open to a different opinion.
Alex Jones, and his ilk (Shapiro, Peterson, Ngo, Yiannopuollos, Robinson, Hopkins et al) are all just grifters. Without the oxygen of a platform, they go away, see Hopkins and Yiannopoullos for examples of this. None of these money grabbing tedious speaking monkeys should be on anyone's podcast as it just gives them the publicity they desperately crave to spread their crap
The problem that Joe has is that he doesn't challenge sufficiently well, for an example of this just listen to the Peterson episode where he lets him spout all sorts of crap that should be shut down (because it's crap, not because it's just a "different opinion"). Being open to having some tedious conspiracy nut-****er on your podcast should also mean that you have to absolutely nailed on when it comes to calling out their bullshit, and Rogan consistently fails to do that.
IMHO one of todays problems is that because Alex Jones is a dick, us non-dicks...
Yes? People who think he’s a dick are by default non-dicks? Not sure I agree...
...So the divide widens, the right goes further right, the left further left.
I missed the part where ‘left’ is synonymous with ‘non-dick’ yet ‘right‘ is synonymous with ‘dick’
*Semi-sarcastic semi-rhetoric alert*
Anyway, Joe Rogan has just now been cancelled because of you non-dicks.
I know this because I read and heard it all over the Youtubes and Twittocks.
Buy the merch! Joe Rogan! Cancelled By The Left!™
This being cancelled will make him more popular than ever! Take that - ‘The Left!‘. Buy the Merch. Pop the pill. If you blow hard enough you’ll be given precious airtime
I enjoyed the Lennox Lewis and RZA ones
The Mike Tyson was okay but they did talk about weed for about 30 mins
Rogan is a bit of a know it all though, I just like the ones where he talks to 'pugilists' and bull burr. On a side note, Richard herring did a podcast with Burr which was really good as they got on pretty well
If he's been cancelled does that mean he's not longer working on his Podcast?
Or like a lot of whiny people is he just carrying on as normal?

Slow down comrade. He is known for being somewhat soft on most of his interviews, his questions are generally more exploratory ones than trying to prove someone wrong.
My favourites
Freeway Ricky Ross
Both Louis Theroux episodes
Both Johan Hari episodes
Any with Bill Burr
Brian Cox
Any with Doug Stanhope
Any with Dan Carlin
RZA ones
RZA ruined by that absolute clowshoe Donell Rawlings who would not shut up
If he’s been cancelled does that mean he’s not longer working on his Podcast?
Nah, Spotify have bought exclusive rights to it for a silly anount of money.
Nah, Spotify have bought exclusive rights to it for a silly anount of money.
Wow - being cancelled sucks.
Uncommon knowledge by hoover institution(conservative think tank).
I'll give it a bash.
Slow down comrade. He is known for being somewhat soft on most of his interviews,
Please; be more condescending, it really helps your argument.
I understand his shtick, I've listened to enough of them. Being soft on your guest is fine if it's Brian Cox, being soft on your guest if they're a right wing grifter who will tell lies for money is another thing altogether. Joe Rogan fails to do this well enough because he's a comedian, not a journalist. Which is why people like Peterson will go on his podcast, he knows he'll get a free pass on his crap
You just have to be selective about which episodes to listen to.
Yeah, he gives people a platform to explain their own thoughts, and rarely argues against them, whether left or right. I tend to ignore any of his political shows though.
Some of his science guests can be good, Brian Cox has been on, and I think Neil deGrasse Tyson has done it at least twice. His questioning is as a curios non expert so just about right. That said, nutrition and sports science guests can be heavy on the "bro science" rather than real science.
Also some interesting non-mainstream sports interviews ie Alex Honnold and Courtney Duawalter.
Really good one on drug policy and treatment with Johann Hari.
Wow – being cancelled sucks.
Indeed. But does bagging a $100m exclusivity deal with Spotify suck as hard as singlehandedly blowing #metoo out of the water AND then claiming to defy victimhood/‘cancel-culture‘ without even being ‘cancelled‘? I can’t work it out. But it surely is the future. It’s almost genius.
(NSFW)
I enjoy the ones he's done with security services personnel. Think he did one with the guy who befriended kkk members too which I'd like to hear.
The American astro physics chap is interesting too.
Just a random thought - Does anyone think JRE is to some large extent so massively popular because boys/men nowadays spend so much time on the web that we forgot (some may not have known) what it was to sit and have a good old chat with friends? It’s like a partially-contrived nu-celeb replacement for those boozy smokey friendy days before the internet? JR just found a way to get paid for what we (old farts) all did at least every week in the 80s and 90s ie Sit, smoke, drink, talk shit? And never, ever...factcheck 🤣!*
Neil’s bedsit, some town. 1989.
‘Did you know that humans (draws on spliff) ...did you know that we, (exhales) er, humans...’
‘Humans what?!’
‘Didyoo know that its been proven that we only use TEN PERCENT of our potential brainpower and just think what we could achieve if that other 90% wasn’t locked in there by some mind-control bullshit!!!’
‘Nah,really?’
‘Yeah really, really’ (passes spliff, sagely)..Untapped potential, man. (Taps temple). Untapped potential.’
‘Shiiiiiiiit. Where dyoo get that from?’
‘Graham’s cousin’
‘Vance is a ...psychologist? Thought he was on the rock and roll?’
‘No mate, hahah, I thought you meant where’d I get (grabs spliff back) <— THAT from’
‘Hahahahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH’
‘Hahahahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAh’. Yeah’
‘Makes you think tho, dunnit?’
‘What does?’
‘I forgot’
‘HahahahHAHAHAHA
‘Beer’?
‘Beer and tits!’?
‘Not got either sorry mate.’
(silent thoughts)
‘Gotta Vesta curry left, we could bulk it up with some peas to make it go round??
‘Has anyone told you you’re a friggin genius?
’Yeah you just now. Hahahah hahahahahaha!
‘HAHAHAHAH. Hahah’
(in unison) ‘CURRRYYYYYYYYYYY!!!’
*some things barely change!
The one with Sir Roger Penrose is very good.
edit: Also Dan Ackroyd, whose views do not align with Penrose much.
Anybody with an opinion on Alex Jones should definitely find the video of AJ warming up the crowd for Doug Stanhope at a show in Austin.
I'm not sure how anyone how legitimises Alex Jones is someone I want to have much to do with
As the father of young kids can't imagine how horrific his actions must have been for those parents
Bernie Sanders.
His interview with Bernie shows you what could have been in America if it's politics weren't a corrupted corporate mess.

The Bill Burr ones are always good
Favourite episode was with Edward Snowden, never heard Joe Rogan shut up for quite so long in one sitting.
I think your onto something there Malvern Rider, Looking at all the guests posters have mentioned they are all male and I can't really remember him ever interviewing a woman. It's lads down the pub, Men behaving badly and what happens to the 'Loaded' generation when they grow up and start to think about politics and shit.
Watched a few episodes in the past but ended up fast forwarding too much as he seemed to be talking about himself most of the time. I guess it's called the Joe Rogan Experience for a reason.
He does provide an easy platform for grifters but then you could say the same for HIGNFY. Politics and comedy can make for strange and dangerous bedfellows.
Joe Rogan fails to do this well enough because he’s a comedian, not a journalist.
You laid out what you see as problematic then answered it yourself! It's not his role. If you want hard hitting critical journalism look elsewhere.
My view is it's a chat show, albeit a less regulated version than what you'd get on TV. It's almost like mates chatting. But like other chat shows, people appear on it to promote themselves/things and I'm certain Joe has a commercial goal!
Do I agree with all his or his guests opinions, absolutely not. Joe is clearly aware his hunting activities, macho MMA culture and associated "locker room banter" don't appeal to everybody. I'd say he's a bit over defensive, at times, and does use his podcast to support those activities and justify his position.
Alex Jones is a proven loon and went off the rails way back. As for Peterson he's clearly got an axe to grind with left-wing bias in academia, which he bangs on about as often as he can and it seems to have shaped some of his other views.
Not all his guests go full BS politics or pseudo/bro science. It is what it is. He has had some interesting guests (whether you like/agree with them or not) and has discussed in detail things you don't often get from other sources.
Penn Jilette
Rob Zombie
There is also the JRE Joe Rogan Effect
I pick and choose who I listen to - am listening to the Oliver Stone one at the moment, Really enjoyed Jon Ronson, louis Theroux etc. The Bernie Sanders one was pretty good too - people assume that JR is a republican, but he actually came out as a Bernie supporter, and said he'd vote for him.
You laid out what you see as problematic then answered it yourself! It’s not his role.
When he was a comedian filling in the gaps of his bookings with chatting to his mates while no one listened, that worked just fine. When he's arguably no longer a comedian, but the front man for a podcast with one largest listening audiences, he should be a bit more circumspect.
It wasn't his role, it is now.
The James Hetfield episode is fantastic. I don't think they talk about music or Metallica once. I did learn a hell of a lot about bees and bee keeping though.
“Have you seen the video of the orang u tan using a spear to catch a fish”
I tried to watch the Alex Jones one last night. Was conflicted as I think he's an utter douche and as said, doesn't deserve the airtime. However I thought the way Rogan handled him was excellent - attempting to keep Jones on topic and cover the many crazy things Jones has said, basically looking for some sort of justification. What he didn't do was sit in front of Jones shouting at him that he's some sort of evil nut job like most people in the press seem to do (regardless of whether it's true or not).
As expected, Jones came across as an utter loon and no amount of coaxing from Rogan could help him, in turn this confirming what I already thought about the fool. The stuff about how the press manipulate was also really interesting - no doubt Jones having been victim to this to some degree. I think it's good that there's a fairly neutral platform for these people to show their true colours, I'd rather make my own mind up about someone than be given a second hand opinion. I've watched quite a few controversial ones and none have changed my preconceived opinion of the individual but at least if I see them mentioned subsequently, I have a better understanding of them as an individual.
As an aside, I genuinely think Alex Jones isn't a well man and is on a sure fire course for a heart attack. Nobody can get that bent out of shape continually and not end up with some sort of health issue. Maybe he should take some of his own weird pills to calm him down...
Anyone able to explain why they wear headphones? Surely they can hear each other across a table.
Can anyone explain why they need headphones?
Allegedly it goes like this:
-Nooooo thats ****ing WILD, man
-For real. Yeah.
-No seriously...what we have happening is that monkeys are now evolving in kind of a not-parallel with humans way, like the same, but not exactly the same, like, like, MUCH further behind
-Like Planet Of the ****ing Apes ahahahahaha!
-I’m not kidding. Orangutangs just entered the stone age. So in the future...
-They’ll be walking down 5th Av with a briefcase?
-(Draws on giant ‘spliff’ off-camera, bumpety bump) Probably not ... Because orangutans are primarily threatened by human activities and development that cause the loss and degradation of their forest habitats. Currently, the IUNC has classified the Bornean orangutan as Endangered and the Sumatran orangutan as Critically Endangered
-GTFO??? What are you inhaling there, bucko?
-Yeah, both species....both species are, are, both species are in severe decline which means that without drastic intervention, orangutans will soon be extinct as biologically viable populations in the wild.
-Wild
-Too much real dude. Too much real.
-So lemme see this video of the monkey spearing fish!
-Oh, I dunno dude, I saw it somewhere.
-Like their own stone age is happening!
-That is SO wild (smh)
-So anyway, it is SO fascinating
-It really looks like The Jungle Book! Huh?
- ....
-Joe?
- ...
-Hey!
-Oh yeah, er
-You like totally zoned out there
-Yeah I was just, you know I was just thinking that extinction stuff I said back there
-Oh you mean with the monkeys?
-Yeah
-Bad, right?
-Well, kinda bad but I mean if we’re burning them anyway...
....
-?
...I was kinda wondering what they taste like.
-You wanna eat an orangutang?
-Yeah, a baby one too.
-(producer’s voice in headphones) ‘Joe, we just got 1m new subscribers the eating burning monkeys. Eating monkeys is good. Stay with it. Just dial it back with the treehugging shit or go right to the oral sex jokes, mkeh?
-(Joe) So, er, so...someone tells me you give great head?
-Who says that?
-YOU said that!
-Wait, dude, do you think monkeys have oral sex?
-I think we need to find that out...
the one with Jake the Snake Roberts is worth a listen if you were a fan of the golden age of wrestling (80's)
Got through 30mins of the Jones one. Not sure I could cope with nearly 5 hours of it. It's exhausting listening to him but imagine what it's like in his head! All his thoughts constantly racing off in different directions while his raspy voice tries to keep up. I'm sure he makes perfect sense to himself. I find him mostly incomprehensible.
All his thoughts constantly racing off in different directions while his raspy voice tries to keep up. I’m sure he makes perfect sense to himself. I find him mostly incomprehensible.
Exactly what I was thinking. Even Rogan starts pointing out that he's ranting, flipping from one subject to another. It must be exhausting..
Exactly what I was thinking. Even Rogan starts pointing out that he’s ranting, flipping from one subject to another. It must be exhausting..
He is evidently not all there.
Did that one start with a suspicious bathroom visit?
Not sure I could cope with nearly 5 hours of it.
5 hours? Is that the length of podcasts these days? This convinces me even further that JRE and the like is in some way a de facto surrogate for social-life/friends IRL. I’m now reading about him on STW, making this my ‘nested‘ social-surrogate. Thick plot.
He is evidently not all there.
Without a doubt Alex Jones is an ill man, he has some form of psychosis. The trouble with him appearing on the Joe Rogan show is that Joe acts (like most rational people do ) as a gullible fool* and the show just descends into another episode of Infowars. Joe does his best, but he's out gunned by Alex at every turn. Alex Jones has spent his entire career on both radio and TV doing this conspiracy shit, Joe is an amateur
* I'm not saying Joe Rogan is a gullible fool. I'm saying that Joe is forced into that role by Alex Jones' scatter gun approach to "explanation"
Well I've got to over an hour and it's given me some laughs. An unfiltered torrent of wild and baseless claims. He rarely goes into detail but just jumps to the next outrageously impossible assertion. I wonder what he talks to his children about. Something tells me he doesn't have an off switch...
5 hours? Is that the length of podcasts these days? This convinces me even further that JRE and the like is in some way a de facto surrogate for social-life/friends IRL.
I just watched/listened to the latest Ben Shapiro, 1hr 45. so about the length of a movie. It was an interesting discussion, and both of them talked some "common sense" about the crazy stuff going on in the world right now. They talked some horse shit about some subjects too, but that's what I like about it. Its a free forum for ideas, good and bad.
As for being a social life surrogate, well, firstly im not sure if you are joking or not, but its just entertainment. If it doesn't entertain you, don't listen to it. I don't like thrash metal so I don't listen to it, but I am aware that other people like it.
Alex Jones has spent his entire career on both radio and TV doing this conspiracy shit, Joe is an amateur
Do you think that Rogan just plays the fool, or do you think he’s allowing Jones enough rope to hang himself? I didn’t watch that and think I’ve got it all wrong about Jones, it just confirmed what I already thought. I certainly don’t have a desire to watch any of the infowars nonsense.
Of course, it assumes a level of intelligence on the listeners behalf but then idiots will follow the nonsense regardless of if it’s shown on Rogans podcast or elsewhere
Do you think that Rogan just plays the fool, or do you think he’s allowing Jones enough rope to hang himself?
It doesn't really matter. It's like Listening to a Phil Collins Album "ironically". You're still listening to Phil Collins....
Even if Joe is Playing the fool, that's immaterial to Alex Jones, he gets to say what he wants, Likewise, if Joe is giving him space to say what he wants, Alex gets to say what he wants..
that’s immaterial to Alex Jones, he gets to say what he wants, Likewise, if Joe is giving him space to say what he wants, Alex gets to say what he wants..
But thats free speech right? that's a good thing?
I just watched/listened to the latest Ben Shapiro, 1hr 45. so about the length of a movie*. It was an interesting discussion
yeah, I saw a movie. It was bad. Wasted over an hour of my life for certain.
Luckily I knew very quickly what Ben Shapiro’s about so it saves me watching his endless sequels of The Grifter. On the plus side - 2 hrs of Shapiro’s jackhammer staccato will deliver AT least 3x more syllables than Joe Rogan. So you get effectively 6hrs for the price of 2 😉
As for being a social life surrogate, well, firstly im not sure if you are joking or not,
Should have winked. I was also attempting self-deprecation as I too spend a loooooot of time listening to opinions of opinions of internet babble. Truth in humour time - it’s surely no entire coincidence that those hours of mine were/are not instead spent with friends and ex-friends/developing new friendships/trying new things as they would most certainly have been before the internet. In fact most certainly. I was 30 yrs old in the 90s. Society has changed and always will as we become more bubbled in our screenworld and emergent L/R dire-log.
but its just entertainment. If it doesn’t entertain you, don’t listen to it. I don’t like thrash metal so I don’t listen to it, but I am aware that other people like it.
Absotively. Decent comparison if you’d specified a particularly political thrash metal band who make their money from pushing a certain political narrative in their lyrics.
But point taken!
Can well imagine a metal band named ‘Shapiro‘!
Song ― ‘How to Destroy The Left’

“No wonder the left seeks to avoid political debate at all costs. Why bother? Members of the left are not interested in having a debate about policy.

They are not interested in debating what is right or wrong.
They are interested in debating you personally.
They are interested in castigating you as a nasty human being because you happen to disagree.
This is what makes leftists leftists!
This is what makes leftists leftists!

(16 bar bass solo with drum fireworks)
An unearned sense of moral superiority over you!
They are nasty humans! Nastyyyyyyy!

And now a word from our sponsors...
It wasn’t his role, it is now.
Are you suggesting when a persons audience size/following reaches a certain number they should be subject to the same broadcasting standards as say the Johnathon Ross Show? With his modern interpretation of nudge nudge wink wink, double entourages, roster of vetted acceptable guests, overseen and edited by the broadcaster.
it’s a chat show, albeit a less regulated version than what you’d get on TV
To quote myself, you read it it didn't you? The reality is he doesn't have to be more circumspect as you put it. His podcast is self-titled, people aren't being sold a mickey.
I know there are people who think all information in the public domain should be filtered down to the pig thick masses for fear of them making the wrong choices, I'm not one of them.
Are you suggesting when a persons audience size/following reaches a certain number they should be subject to the same broadcasting standards as say the Johnathon Ross Show?
No, I'm suggesting that if you're going to have conspiracy theory nutjobs who will lie for money on your show (as opposed to say Brian Cox or some random MMA fighter) then yeah, you have to have some sort of standard to which they can be held. Otherwise, you're just enabling them, and in Alex Jones' case, probably re-enforcing whatever mental delusion he's suffering from
I know there are people who think all information in the public domain should be filtered down to the pig thick masses for fear of them making the wrong choices, I’m not one of them
Cool, if you're Joe Rogan and you have a super successful podcast, you'd invite these people on, would you let them lie with impunity to you or would you hold them to account for making stuff up for money?
you have to have some sort of standard to which they can be held.
Why?
No but yeah ok....
You're going round in circles. You can ignore the reality and not like him and one particular loony guest that's your prerogative.
Why?
Have you heard the lies that Alex Jones tells for money?
You can ignore the reality and not like him and one particular loony guest that’s your prerogative.
This sentence makes no sense.
Have you heard the lies that Alex Jones tells for money?
You didn’t answer.
Yes, some, but that doesn’t answer my question. There are many ways to make money from untruths. One of them is to entertain people by pretending that you believe conspiracy theories. Another is to actually believe them, and entertain people, that way. Another is to create them yourself...etc
Endless opportunity in a free market. Why would you wish to limit the free market of ideas? Isn’t that what infotainment is all about? Entertaining people with new (and recycled) info and disinfo? Let the viewer decide?
You want to gag people? Or make them toe some policy line? On their own show?
You want to gag people?
Nope, far from it. I'd have Alex Jones on my podcast in a flash...But I'd make damn sure I had some actual proof to counter his crap...
Nope, far from it. I’d have Alex Jones on my podcast in a flash…But I’d make damn sure I had some actual proof to counter his crap…
Ah, the ‘proof’ dollar. Small dollar. Well-meaning dollar. Interesting market though. Fluctuating. Ultimately I reckon you’d have to spice it up a bit or learn to grow your own food. You‘d also have the not inconsiderable problem of trying to get bullshitters to debate you on your show. They guard their bullshit verrrry carefully and are superpicky about who they debate/mug.
See Sam Seder vs ‘liberals won’t debate me’ Steve Crowder for an off the top example. More likely they’d choose to shoot their shit with an established hungry-for-clicks-and-kicks non-judging, super-easygoing bromancer, or else mug some random college kid. Why would they ‘debate’ you? Seriously? Your dream show is stillborn I’m afraid. You’re old money. The Cook Report finished in 1999. 😉
Joe's flip flopping on issues dependent on guests position annoys me as much as the next person but to see people think he has some kind of responsibility as a broadcaster is laughable, it's closer to overhearing a conversation between people at the pub than a regulated broadcast.
I have listed since double digits, when it was only on ustream and hadn't made it to youtube yet and it was far more conspiracy based back then, Joe used to love the moon landings were filmed by Kubrik, big foot is out there, UFO's are abducting people and ancient aliens made us. He has moved position on conspiracies quite a lot.
I've only dipped in and out since covid however, I find his position on covid and masks insufferable. While he is spending 1000's a month on age extension treatments, vitamins and testing, he is advocating everyone else should just eat better and run hills and they would be fine. He doesn't seem to get at all that while he thinks it is unfair he can't do comedy and it curtails his freedoms, he advocates the vulnerable people should just stay shielded forever as somehow being fair.
Tom O'Neill one is brill. About Michael Manson and CIA links.
Nope, far from it. I’d have Alex Jones on my podcast in a flash…But I’d make damn sure I had some actual proof to counter his crap…
Are many listening to your podcast?
Well, one way (I'm not saying its a good way) of judging a youtube channel is what other channels videos start getting suggested after watching. JRE does not do great by this metric, it's wall to wall incel heaven.
Guy Ritchie was a good listen. Varied topics, good rapport. Some MMA chat but not too much.
All this 'free market of ideas' stuff, have you people actually been noticing what is going on in the world? Having a wild, largely unregulated space for people to promote their ideas has meant a huge rise in vile, toxic ideas that rile up people's most base emotions, resulting in massively more actual real life abuse of all sorts of minority groups, and Brexit/Trump etc.
The mass gathering of data with the aim of manipulation, and validation of extremist groups by online peers isn't some kind of holy grail of free speech, it's often a cesspit. I know of more than one person who started listening to Joe Rogan and has gone down a slippery slope of the kind of incel type videos mentioned above btw.
I'm not sure what the answer is but let's not try and pretend unfettered 'free speech' is some kind of hallowed ideal. It's really not.

So he’s the gateway drug of podcasts then? I just thought he was a bloke chatting shit and getting paid for it. Listen to him, don’t listen to him, the world will carry on regardless. I’ve listened to or watched a few and not ended up on cocaine hating women or people of different ethnic backgrounds. Guess I must be doing something wrong.

Oh cool you took a tiny bit of what I said (and ignored the rest) and made out I said something much more extreme then mocked that made up version. Haven't we made great progress as a species and isn't the internet wonderful.
