I'm filling in a form one question asks what my salary expectations are the other asks my current salary. Now before my current job I was earning £9k more than I am now. In the current salary should I plump it up a bit as it would seem like a large jump for an employer, but I don't really want to tell porkies yet nor do I want to continue on my current wage.

What's good for your industry ? If you are good at what you do ask for that

Its not so much the asking I have a problem with I am wondering whether I should state I earn more than I currently do so it does not look like such a large jump. Basically I was on £24k I was made redundant thanks to Mr Brown and took a job paying £15k but would like to return to a higher wage.

Don't lie about your current earnings. Your new employer will request the P45 from your previous one which will show how much you earned.

A discussion about the discrepancy between what you told them and what appears on the P45 is not a good way to start a new job.

I would not answer the question and reply by saying "... to be discussed at interview ..."

I have done it now and taken the honest route, I just don't like to count myself out of jobs at the first hurdle. As great as honesty is it doesn't keep you warm at night.
