Can't find my nice white shirt.

Next best option might be a navy blue one that takes cufflinks.

Would be wearing with brown cords and dark grey jacket.

Got a nice tie to go with the blue shirt, but is it a faux pas? Cufflinks too fancy?

I sport tie & cufflinks every day. I don't have to. People think I'm a bit odd

P.S.
Brown cords?? Leather patches on jacket elbows?

You're thinking of wearing brown cords, and are concerned about the colour of your shirt...

And the real answer, is a suit - tie optional.

Brown cords? I take it you're a teacher.

Why's this a problem? The interview can't be tomorrow unless it's a job you're not really interested in, can it? In which case the brown cords and blue shirt are a non-issue.
Don't forget to give the suede shoes a proper brushing too.

Was there a 'charity shop ensembles only' requirement for the interview?

If brown cords are interview wear, I'd love to see that 'nice tie'.

Forget the tie, pointless bit of tat to hang round your neck and drop in your lunchtime soup

Job is in digital media.

Haven't worn a suit since 2001.

Brown and grey is a no no. Just wear a suit with an ironed shirt, no need for a tie.

Good luck!

Go to M&S tomorrow, buy a navy blue suit, a white shirt from the 'Luxury'collection (30 odd quid) and a navy tie. DO NOT WEAR CORDS TO AN INTERVIEW! Unless you don't want the job, in which case knock yourself out.

I had a guy turn up for an interview today who clearly hadn't bothered to have a wash. For a few days. Absolutely reeked. Can't remember what he was wearing though.

So I guess my advice is make sure you're not a stinky hobo else your choice of outfit will be irrelevant.

Job is in digital media.

Shorts and t-shirt should do it.

Your combination does sound odd though to be fair. I think we need pictures.

It's the kind of jacket that goes with jeans normally. Not had any comments on the cords before, and my friends would certainly have ripped the piss if it was warranted.

However the blue shirt looked appalling and now you've all got me doubting my judgement.

I'll pop into town in the morning.

Did you used to work on a show about cars?

Such transgression cannot be tolerated.

Jacket and jeans? FFS. Jeans on their own are bad enough to merit a harsh punishment, but with a jacket? You deserve to be tarred, feathered and dragged through the town screaming.

Haha, that's just as smart as most of us new media cats are prepared to get.

Most of the time it's more like this though...

Probably left speechless.

I work around digital folks, and if you turned up to me for an interview in brown cards I wouldn't hire you. Simples.

The most senior you are, the darker the denim needs to be.

And a Paul Smith floral pattern shirt is de rigeur.

lol. You're friends certainly will take the piss when we meet up on the 6th 😉

In the spirit of honesty:

I too own brown cords (mine are from Paul Smith dahling) but I usually whistle-up for interviews.
I also recently employed someone who wore brown cords to an interview (despite not because of).

White shirt is a good call.

Good luck!
