I've borrowed my old man's jetwash to clean the gunge of my patio. It's a bottom of the range Halfords thing, and I'm running it off a water butt, by way of a submersible pump. I'm doing sessions of about 30 mins at a time as that's how long the water lasts.

The first 2 sessions everything worked fine. Today, a couple of minutes after commencing, it started stuttering. It works for between 1 & 5 secs, then the pump cuts out momentarily. Proper PITA as it never actually gets back up to proper output pressure for more than a second or 2 before cutting out again.

Before I pull it to pieces, I thought I'd canvas opinions as to likely cause. I'm thinking there's some kind of pressure switch on the high pressure side that makes the pump cut in when the trigger is pressed, and I'm guessing it will be that? Are they serviceable?

I think it's been barely used before I got my hands on it, although it is a couple of years old. Be mildly embarrassing to have to return it borked...

Thanks!

May be a blockage somewhere if you're pumping water from a butt? So it can't get enough flow to maintain the pressure and cuts out.

Is there a filter somewhere? There's a load of crap in the bottom of our water butts that I wouldn't want to be sucking into a jetwash.

Was it cold between when you last used it and today? Did you leave it somewhere cold (like below freezing)? What you describe sounds like a problem with the diaphragm in the pump - normally broken by water freezing inside the pump.

My jetwash now gets to move into the utility room before the first frost from the shed after previous trashing. You can run them dry by disconnecting the water and running for a few seconds but it is not always reliable at getting all the water out.

Old man wants a new jet wash and has sabotaged it. One thing for it, go round and bum his dog.

It runs quite happily (albeit very noisily) when it runs out of water.

If there is a filter, it's not externally accessible.

Used it yesterday. It's been piss wet overnight, but not cold.

No dogs, cats, hamsters or other household pets to abuse. Sorry!

there will be an integrated filter on the inlet if its anything modernish and half decent.

What trail rat said, plus try running it from the mains water. It may have some algae in it and mains pressure will help to flush it. Also running from the mains will give a higher pressure at the nozzle which will make the job easier.
