According to radio 4, the great North air ambulance service have trialled a jet suit for getting to remote patients. They've a teaser on their Twitter: https://twitter.com/SharonBarbour/status/1310715999033982977?s=19.
I love watching the air ambulance helicopter land on our local football pitch making deliveries to hospital. This sounds even more fun.
Can’t wait I’ll be just like James Bond in Thunderball.
Film and interviews on BBC Breakfast. It did look very cool.
Surely a personal 1 person drone would be better?
In the short term can we have small drone-defibrillators? I know a lot of remote communities now have one at a central location but if a farmer on a hillside needs it there can still be a significant delay. So lets bolt some propeller blades on and allow the control/call handlers to launch and pilot the defibrillator to the patient?
(not as impressive as a big helicopter coming to help mind you)

Is it only me that misread that at first as Jesuits for Paramedics, and wondered whether it was a support group or a recruitment strategy?
If the jet suit lands on dry moorland will it set the place on fire?
Most of the videos I've seen of the same suit show it flying over water and landing where there is no risk of fire.
Does this only have limited range too, so therefore not ideal for getting to remote places...
Smells like a solution looking for a sale...
So would Jetsuits result in the need for more paramedics or did I too misread the thread title?
Has pandemic delayed the release of an April 1st press release?

No. 😅
Me too.

You are not alone. I don't think I'd have clicked on it if I'd read it properly. Jesuits would be far more interesting.
They'd be useful for delivering extreme unction (just in case).
So that interview talks about a 5 min jet flight instead of a 25 min walk....but how long when you get out of the car to get the suit on and checks completed before you start flying....bet it's more than 20 min.
Well that would make an interesting risk assessment!
Also, I guess it can only operate in almost calm conditions?
I think the defib on a drone suggestion would make a lot more sense.
How much does it cost? In reality how often will it be used? How many of the staff can use it?
Wonder how safe it is in the hills, be of limited use in variable air currents and low visibility, sure, there might be the very odd time when it could be useful, but a waste of resources really.

Guilty as charged!
