Not sure if it's the size of my thighs or denim tending to be very thin these days but for the last year or so I've only been getting about 6 months, maybe three wears a week out of a pair of jeans before they get holes right at the top of the inner thigh area.

Never seemed to happen before and jeans would last me years rather than months.

Ive been buying next jeans for about the  last 3 pairs which do seem to be a thin fabric, but i don't have this issue with office trousers for example, I've got some cheap BHS office trousers just about ready to retire after a few years and they get a lot more hours of wear.

Do I need to seek out a heavier grade denim?

Kind of annoying as the whole point of jeans is to be a hard wearing item of clothing..

Thanks

I went through this, and my conclusion was sadly that it's cheap denim that's the problem.

I tend to wear Carhartt now and they're eventually more likely to go through at the knees than the crotch (or, at least, that's my experience with the last three pairs). Before that I was going through a pair of Gap jeans every few months.  I had a very hard wearing pair of limited ed Levis, and the 'engineered' ones lasted a while too, but the high st ones I tended to wear through.

Bit leftfield and not for the snobs but Sainsburys do very decent quality jeans. 🙂

Last for ages, wear well.

I like the Next ones too, but they do wear out quickly.

Cheers, I was thinking about levis but read that the mass produced ones suffer from the same issues unless you buy some special ones.

I'll have a look at the ones mentioned.

Dunno.  But all of my underkecks eventually resemble threadbare cotton Klan hoods, with two roughly eye-sized holes which appear either side of the crotch seam. I think maybe my balls have alien-sweat syndrome.

OP, I know a couple of people who make bell-tents and canvas geodesic structures.  The latter suffer all manner of chafing on poles and other things yet still keep going strongly after 10 years or more.  It's obvious a high-grade cotton weave.  I reckon they could rustle you up a pair of stiff and purposeful outerkecks for a price? Could be 3 figures yet would probably pay for themselves many times over as one pair might last the rest of your days (depending on current age).  I'd also go for a more traditional slot and (wooden) peg fly, rather than zips.  Zips always fail, while a peg may be re-whittled pretty much on the spot.

Can’t say that jeans, or any troos for that matter, wearing out at the crotch has ever been an issue. Wearing through at the seat, however, has always been a problem. Mainly solved by owning numerous pairs and spreading the wear around.

I do that to everything I wear, I have got pretty large thighs though. Thickness of fabric never seems to help for me. As for the suit trousers, they are largely smoother so there's lower friction.

Not sure if you can get them in the uk, but I wear Express jeans, with a bit of Lycra so they stretch over my cyclists thighs. It makes s waering skinny jeans bearable. I’ve never had any wear out at the crotch either.

Nothing makes wearing skinny jeans bearable.  Or acceptable.  Unless you are female.  In which case, carry on.

Trend amongst youngsters at work appears to be tight trousers that are too short and no socks.  Likes nerds used to wear when I was a kid.  Another fashion passes me by.

I had the same problem until I started wearing jap denim. Uniqlo are in the UK whilst Moji are not but both can be ordered online and are much a muchness. My Uniqlos have only just burst through the knee after about 3 years use, otherwise they are fine so will get patched and carry on.

Had a graduate in for an interview a couple weeks ago like that. Tight suit trousers half way up his calves and no socks with formal shoes. Seen a few of them dressed like that in work before where they get rightly ridiculed by everyone else, but that was first I'd seen someone turn up like that for an interview.

All mine, go at the crotch, including Uniqlo selvidge. I do have a pair of Ted Bakers that lasted about 5 years until I stopped wearing boot cut jeans.

I've not owned boot cut jeans.

Are they just semi flares? I do like a nice pair of Lionels.

I have the same problem....

My brother gave me some Denham jeans a few years back... they are hideously expensive, but some are on a 50% off sale at the moment... anyway... try as I may, these things just WILL NOT DIE!

Debating getting another pair in the sale.  £75 is more than I would ever spend on jeans normally, but they are very, very good.

Tbh next ones are about 35/40 quid and don't last at all so I'm not entirely against spending double that if I know I'm going to get quality that lasts a few years..

I see off FatFace in about 6 months a pair... so thinking about it they do make sense!

He gave me a pair of Iron Hearts too, those things are like armour plating for your legs!!!!  The ones he got me were already second hand, and are so heavy I can only wear them in winter, but I suspect they will outlast me!

Carharrts have outlasted anything else I have ever bought.

I pick them up in their sales for about 45 quid a pop, only ever in the dark blue denim and only ever in straight or workman's cut . They usually wear out by the rivets pulling through the tinned out denim after about 5 years

I do like a dickies carpenters pant  in duck bill brown though for casual wearingwear they don't last nearly as long (but are cheap so don't care if I get em dirty)

Gave up on FatFace, they last 6 months tops. Levis are nowhere near the quality they used to be but last a bit better and can be found on sale racks often enough.

My default jeans of choice now are Diesel. Stupidly expensive if you're unfortunate enough to be paying full price, but once you've found a style and cut that fits you can often find them at ~£60 a pair. My longest serving pair still look great 5 years in.

Same issues here. I put it down to hideous arse crack sweat as my underwear tends to go the same way. 😕

Levis apparently have a 2 year guarantee but I couldn't get a straight answer out of the guy if it covered crotch rub.

I went through Uniqlos in much the same time as I went through Levis, Next and Quicksilver.

Current pair are 'M & Co' which I picked up cheap in Oban whilst in dire need. They're lasting brilliantly!

I'm not so sure, it's like socks, they used to last years and now many brands are threadbare in months ... I'm sure most companies are using substandard materials /manufacturing processes..

I'm another who'd vote for supermarket jeans. Tesco and Sainsbury's jeans seem to be pretty robust IME. No cool points for me!
