Planning a holiday in Japan. We have booked our accomodation apart from in Takayama and Hakone. Anyone got any recommendations for traditional style Japanese hotels in these locations? Thanks
Been to Hakone many eons ago but sadly the ex (Japanese lass) did all the booking. Its a very traditional type of Japanese weekend retreat, popular for company trips where whole departments strip off and hit the onsen together.
From my experience, and this was over 14 years aga, it was not very western friendly but things could have changed a lot since then.
If you do get stuck PM me and I can ask some friends in Japan for some advice?
Hakone Guide
Annoyingly can't remember where we stayed at Hakone - it was an old-style (ish) ryokan, our room had its own bath, and it was fabulous. Will see if Mrs Pondo can find the name.
The three things I learned from my "visiting Japan" thread on here were -
-Get JR passes
-Get Suica
-Send your bags between hotels
First took a chance on the last point in Hakone and it transformed the holiday. 🙂
