Good morning all, as per title really bit of a random one but this place is font of all knowledge so thought worth a punt. Wife and I starting course of privately funded IVF and are trying to find any info on where is cheap/ easy to get the drugs from, we have prescription but obviously are trying to minimise costs where possible.
I know from previous threads some on here have undertaken this before so thought worth a punt. Appreciate it's not something everyone is comfortable talking about in public forum so if better for you drop me email to my username @hotmail.com
Thanks in advance, Niall

No advice to give (we took a deep breath and paid the best part of £1000 despite others around us (we were in an NHS unit) only paying the standard prescription charge - purely based on our postcode 🙁

But good luck with the journey... 🙂

Thanks John, looking like that may be way for us too. Just looking into asda at moment, seen some stuff online that they do them for decent price.

FWIW we spent a fortune 14 years ago and on our 2nd attempt we were successfully and now have a 12 year old so consider ourselves very lucky. Back then there was no funding and the drugs were even more expensive we spent well over £10k for our two attempts.

My advice would be to try and minimise any stress so if finding cheaper drugs helps with that go for it otherwise I think you just have to accept it's an expensive process.

Not sure how helpful that is but good luck to you.

Cheers lefty, to be honest not sure why put cheap - being able get them would be more issue suspect, but at least we have the prescription now. We are slightly complicated by having to use foreign clinic (Greece) as dificult getting UK ones take on for own eggs due to age 🙁

And on the whole most clinics in U.K. Seem be money grabbing barstewards profiteering on vulnerable people from our experience to date.

Nothing much to add to answer your question other than to wish you the best of luck.
Also, please don't rule out adopting. As the husband of an adoption social worker there are so many kids in need of a good home it makes your heart bleed.
I wish you all the best.

Thanks toppers, it is indeed something we are ' holding in reserve', if unsuccessful after a current nominal 3 cycles.

Currently in a similar position (1 failed attempt, 2nd due to start in Dec). ASDA seem the best, think the Mrs told me that we're getting them from there as they sell them for cost.

Not got any experience of paying for treatment but we were very fortunate to go via NHS route.

It's one hell of an emotional roller coaster and not one I'd wish on anyone. Be prepared for a few lifestyle changes to maximise any little assistance (wife gave up a job in Manchester because the 2hr commute from the Wirral was stressing her out).

Personally it was really tough on her and after our first failed attempt we went down the route of counselling and it really helped (appreciate it's not for everyone).

Best of luck to you both... and for the record we've got amazing 7yr old twins who love riding!

Thanks Scunny, will pop to ASDA tomorrow and make inquiries - good to have it validated by someone else. It's a minefield trying find info out. Good luck with your 2nd cycle - everything crossed for you, looks like we will be heading to Greece in few weeks for our first.

Ninkynonk- it's such a roller coaster, and that's even before we really get started - some tough times ahead I fear. Suspect I will be back on here again for some anonymous support, and out on bike for headspace too.

No advice to give, but have been through this myself twice.

One failed round, one successful round and an amazing 2 year old. My second child, a natural 'surprise' was due on Wednesday. Who knows what the next couple of days will bring.

Just wanted to wish you and your other half all the best for what lies ahead. Stay positive - we found it made a huge difference regardless of the outcome.

You or your wife may well have already seen them, but in case you haven't, the forums on fertility friends are a huge source of info and support, I used them a lot during our 3 rounds of IUI (a complete rollercoaster but we now have a fabulous 4 year old). Found a thread on buying drugs for IVF here:

Good luck!

Thanks Andy, positive attitude is going be a struggle suspect but preparing selves mentally for it.

Crankygirl - thank you very much for that, had read some good info - will have proper look at work tomorrow. Had planned go ASDA for chat today but have had manflu so popping in tomorrow as from that thread they seem pretty good value and easy to deal with.

Thanks all again for advice and best wishes.
