I've been given a better laptop by my tech savvy son. He's moved the ssd over and all seemingly worked OK once he had purchased a new Windows 10 key.
Keyboard was odd though, all keys worked except the bottom left ctrl key. So he swapped in a known to be good keyboard which worked fine... for a bit but again, the left ctrl key stopped functioning. New keyboard purchased and installed, tested with an on screen keyboard map thing, all works fine.
But in the real world of Office apps the left ctrl key has no effect. If I want to copy via ctrl+c when I have highlighted the text all I get is a c character, no copying to the clipboard occurs. It's a similar situation with the other ctrl+ shortcuts.
Weirdly, the ctrl key on the right of the keyboard is and always has been fine.
It's a Lenovo.
Throw it away and buy a Mac.
I should have known that was coming 🙄
Yup, I'll do it right away.
Oh thank God. It's not about someones bowels 😯
When you were offered the new laptop, were you so excited you just couldn't hide it?
On most Lenovos you can swap the left ctrl and fn keys in the bios maybe done accidentally?
Is it still in warranty? You may be able to take back ctrl.
This thread - I think I like it
You posted some comments; no questions, no request for advice so what did you expect other than a sarcastic response?
If you want some help/advice, what's your question?
what’s your question?
Obviously the the cntr button isnt functioning as it should, or as it does with usual keyboards.
The clues are all there.
Thread title - " I’ve lost ctrl " coupled with " and always has been fine."
I had no problem with the replies, but please accept my apologies frankconway if I have confused you.
Please, if you are able to offer any advice or experience in some way pertinent to the situation I have described in the original post could you consider doing so in order that I can try to fix the problem.
Thanks.
As mentioned above on Lenovos you can swap the ctrl and fnc keys in the BIOS. I expect this is what had happened. Try the fnc key, does it work like the ctrl key should?
Unfortunately not.
All drivers up to date now. The machine has been restarted too.

I hate to break it to you, but he's not all that tech-savvy.
Go into Device Manager. Delete any "HID keyboard device" you see. Reboot.
This is probably a symptom of "moved the SSD over," a flatten and reinstall will likely fix it and in any case is best practice.
Sounds like you would sell your soul for total control?

I was trying to select all on Beth Ditto's laptop recently.
I could reach the 'A' but not the rest as she was standing in the way of Ctrl
Gossip gag wins it for me. Wins!
Tee hee
Is this a Tena or Spanx related thread?
