Popped to the newsagents ths morning to pick up a paper and as I had a spare 2 quid thought I'd buy a lottery scratch card. I haven't bought a lottery ticket since 1997 but thought why not. Basically match three numbers to win that amount. Turns out that the amount was £20,000!!!

Pretty pleased really as I had a mountain of debt stacking up and I can pay it all off now and leave about £10,000 to do with as I please. Today is a good day.

Sweet 🙂 Make sure you buy something useful with the 10k, like a dog with three tails or something like that.

I don't know what I'll do with the 10k. It hasn't entirely sunk in really. like most people I've never really won anything before so it's weird to think I'm just going to be given 20 grand for nothing. The most money I've ever had.

I'll have to treat the wife and I to something.

So how do you get your money?

For smaller amounts obviously you can just claim it in the newsagents.

I guess you have to phone up and then not leave the house or sleep until the ticket can be verified, and they give you a cheque or balance transfer?

I've heard that there are some fake scratchcards doing the rounds that, when you rub the panels off you *appear* to have won £20k.
If you send it to me I can examine it to see if it is genuine or not...

😉

though, if you got yourself 10k in debt it might be worth setting aside a good chunk of the remaining 10k to make sure it doesn't happen again...

Thanks all. Absolutely chuffed now it's sunk in. The debt incidentally was due to life changing surgery overseas for my mum so wasn't being frivolous or careless with money.

After paying it off I'm going to treat the wife and I to a holiday. Haven't had one in 3 years. Ticket has to be verified and then you are sent a cheque for 20 thousand pounds.

Mostly that, TBH at the moment investing is shite unless your in it for the long game so any debts you have get rid of and don't go wild just because you have a bit now. Financial stability is a very calming thing.

Wahay.....a nice post on stw....well done, i bet it's a fantastic feeling to now say "I'm debt free, with cash to spare"

For gods sake don't put the scratchcard somewhere safe.....everytime i put something of value somewhere safe i can never remember where i hid it nor find it again.

Keepy a stash for a 'rainy day'*

I won in 98. 87 quid. Bought everyone drinks to celebrate!!!

Enjoy it OP.

I would stick the lot in the bank and pay off your debts steadily. The nest egg will help you relax, transform your stress levels proportionally more than blowing it etc. 🙂

Congrats to the OP - good to know some winning scratchcards actually exist with the amount I buy 😳

Be wise with it, especially in these hard times, a guy I know won one million a while ago, moved to a new house and blew the rest.

Ive heard hes just got done for benefit fraud !!!

Nice one. I have only won a few things in the past. The most memorable a colour tv.

My mate (you know who you are!) was trying to sell me raffle tickets and I was never going to buy one as I never win anything. So a few days later he asks for a loan of £1 or possibly £2,can't remember back to 1990-ish. I give it to him and he starts grinning like a cheshire cat.. telling me that it was for a raffle ticket. Wasn't too impressed at the time (yeah,a £1!) but to win the tv after all that happening was priceless.
