Long post...
As some of you know I posted back in January about getting cellulitis in my arm, its normal for lymph nodes to go up when you have in infection , I have a pea size one under my arm that has stayed the same.
I've been backwards and forwards to the docs asking if its normal, all docs have said yes it should go down, well its still the same size.
I went back to the GP on Tuesday who said I can tell your anxious so I'm going to refer you, hes sure its nothing either fatty lump or lymph node still recovering from infection.
I got a call today, I have an appointment in two weeks at the breast clinic as they deal with under arm lumps etc, I asked what would happen on the day, which is see a consultant, mammogram and scan.
I have private health care, but doctor is sending me down the NHS route, in all fairness I forgot to mention to the doctor, I'm not sure whether to ask to go private (pay £250.00 excess- not bothered about that)
going private will speed the process up by a week
I want to believe the GP'S i've seen (seen 3 different ones) being a sufferer of anxiety isn't helping me,
My mum had breast cancer and died when she was 51 years old,
I feel very confused
It may have always been there and I never felt for it, cellulitis may have bought it on and its just a lymph node- or I'm f kced
cant think straight at the mo, and I maybe making things worse with my anxiety
not sure going private is the answer
before anyone says I need a therapist - I already have one (5years)
I know none of you have the answer etc just getting it out, everytime I look at my wife and two boys Im holding back so much anger, anxiety tears etc and its been like this for weeks.
In my fantasy brain - life was so much easier without wife and children.
I'm 44
Thanks strangers for listening...
YOu know the answer - 99.9% chance its nothing at all to worry about but that 0,1% chance is what makes you worried.
I suggest a walk outside -- that should get you chilled out 😉
wot TJ said*. It's a scary business, even if probability is right on your side; you just have to ask if losing a week of uncertainty is worth £250 to you
*except the going outside business; that's madness
I'm a bloke, I have a cyst on my left arm that often sends pain down it. It's about the size of a 10p and aches most days of the week. Occasionally it wakes me up, mostly it's just bloody annoying.
GP says "it's common" and "I've had 3 removed, if you want a bi-opsy then I can organise one but unless you are loosing weight or sweating don't worry.. and here are some neurological pain killers if it gets worse" and "come back in the summer when it will get bigger and I'll take a look at it then"
So, annoying your issues are you must get them looked and treated.
I'm keeping a close eye on mine and will be going back in the summer as requested.
You need a new therapist really.
The reality is you will find out once you go, if you cant wait a week then pay for private. The answer will be the same, just earlier.
loosing weight or sweating don’t
I've lost about 4kg since November last year(been eating less) and have the odd sweaty night...it hasn't changed and its not painful
The NHS breast clinic is likely to be a one-stop service with all investigations done the same day. The private appointment may not be..you might see a specialist more quickly but might not get the investigations/results the same day so worth checking if that is your choice.
In general I would say NHS 2 week wait clinics work well for their intended purpose.
I've been in the breast clinic a few times. If you went private you might end up seeing the same person in the end anyway just a week earlier....
You're doing the right thing - get it checked out and go through the process. It'll either put your mind at rest or you'll know exactly what you are dealing with and the possible courses of action.
As noted it is most likely nothing but I know that doesn't stop the worrying.
