I bought my wife a series 1 Apple Watch for Xmas and needed to change the battery as it was a bit poor, I have done this before and all went ok.
This time I must of caught the ribbon when removing and IV totalled it - iv tried to see what needs salvaging but it looks like I’d be better buying another and just putting it down to a bad experience.
Does anyone have one lying around gathering dust 38mm or 42mm that I could get?
Thanks

I’d look for a used Watch 3 from CEX. The three seems to be the sweet spot. I’ve had mine two years, really as a test to see if I’d use the technology. I’m sold and have just bought one for son1. You’ll pay about £125-150 even without a strap. The newer bigger fancy ones aren’t as good. Seriously go straight to 3.

What Tired says. I had a series 1 but was slow and some apps unusable as a result ie mail and messenger load times were 30secs plus to load a message. A lot of the smart features not really useable.
Bought a used 3 and everything just works. No doubt not as fast or whatever as latest models but works just how you’d want it. And pretty cheap if buy used.

@TiRed agree the 3 is great (had one for years 😀) but actually better than the newer ones? Why? Have you used one? Thought they were the same size, not physically bigger (bigger screen tho cos of the smaller bezel). Keep being tempted to upgrade but might wait for the 7 now!

Agreed 3 is fast enough to not be a problem, the earlier ones would struggle on things like starting a workout then picking some music to play over Bluetooth.

I’ve just ordered a new one so will have a 42mm series 3 space grey Nike one up for sale in a few days.

Nonsense.

3 is fast enough *now*, I wouldn't suggest buying one today as who knows if they'll be fast enough on the next update. Will they even get it? No guarantees there. Older than 3 already lost software support from Apple with OS7. Other than cash I don't see a single reason the 3 is better than 4/5/6. Current sweet spot is the SE IMO if you're not set on the latest/greatest and want guaranteed support.

Battery life. Size - I like the 38 mm. price for features. It’s the iPhone SE of the watch line. Does all I want - Strava, HR, read my messages, haptic notifications when driving.

Sure others will do more, but do you want more?

Ok, so not ACTUALLY better, just functional enough, & cheaper 😀

Indeed. But it IS the iPhone SE equivalent. I guess they’ll try and kill it slowly in the same way!

Very pleased with mine, except I had to change the strap as the Nike one pinched. Have a sports band that’s much more comfortable.

I like my 3 but wish it had the always-on function. The 4 gets that and a bigger screen / more “complications” so it’s worth paying a bit more for that IMHO.

I bought mine and wasn’t sure I’d use it. But I wear it every day and 18 months on, the extra money spent for the 4 would have been worthwhile.

Edit : perhaps I mean the 5 for always-on. The Apple Watch line up/ history is really confusing.

The se is just under 2 mm bigger than the 3. That’s less than a mom each side, and has a 64 bit processor unlike the 32 but in the series 3. I’d skip the 3 and go for at least a 4. My 2 year old 4 still works perfectly. There’s less bezel around the watch too.

Got the wife an SE for christmas. Looked at a series 5 and just thought the additional cost was not worth it. Starting to get pricey looking at a series 5.

On the basis my series 2 is still going strong after 4 or so years the SE should last plenty long enough. Though my S2 is starting to get a bit laggy but battery life is still good enough to last one day with an hour or so’s gps use but definitely getting towards the end of its useful life.

Surprised the OP is looking to resurrect a series 1 though. My wife’s SE was to replace her series 1 which has basically become unusable. Battery no longer lasts a day (fair enough you can replace that) and any interaction with the screen is so slow and laggy it’s basically unusable.

Daughter has a Series 3 which works fine still so a good few more years left in series 3 watches I think based on how my series 2 has lasted.

Uhm, Apple just released a new iPhone SE last year, so not sure they're really trying to kill it.

I'd also argue the Watch SE is the iPhone SE of the watch line.

Battery life on newer watches is comparable to old (with new features like always on screen) - i.e reliably 1 day. You can turn off the always on display, etc and have drastically better battery life than prior. For reference, on my year-old series 5, I can get 3 full days use & sleep tracking with nothing more than a top-up on the charger while showering, etc. Personally I find it easier to remember to charge daily so do that and use all of the watch's features without issue.
