A quick question for the iTunes users of STW. I'm asking on behalf of my brother who is not on STW. He normally resides in Australia but is currently in the UK. He uses iTunes but some tracks in certain albums are greyed out with the note 'the song is not currently available in your country or region'.
For example, whilst in Australia he could not play eg two or three tracks of a particular album, they were greyed out. Now he is in the UK he can play them. Music previously purchased in the UK has been affected in this way. Some of this is quite old, pre-iPhone and has been 'moved' from an iPod to iTunes and his current iPhone. Not all albums are affected.
Music purchased in Australia can be accessed both in Australia and the UK. What the heck is going on and how can it be fixed so that he can play all his music, wherever he might be?
Personally I do not use iTunes so if my description of the problems above is confused, it's probably because I am too!
Is the greyed out stuff DRM'd perhaps? If so, no idea how you remove it.
Would there be different DRMs for different tracks on the same album?
I don't know I'm afraid...I don't really understand DRM, sorry.
I've always assumed it's something to do with publishing rights. I noticed that "Private Idaho' by The B-52s is not available on UK iTunes - except for live versions - though the rest of the albums it appears on are otherwise complete.
I had to fix it by manually adding a copy to my iTunes library*. The song now seems to be available wherever I want to listen. I've done the same with a couple of other tracks.
*That copy was obtained by naughtily downloading it from YouTube. I figure I've bought the album and paid for the right to listen to it, so bollocks to the idea it's 'no longer available' in this country for whatever reason.
Here are some other suggestions that might help:
