*(If you are a time traveller from the Middle ages.)
On Thursday, Florida's governor moved to expand a law that banned public schools from teaching sexual education and gender identity.
Teachers who violate the law face being suspended or losing their teaching licences.
is the most terrifying part of that article.
The BBC misleading again:
Principal fired
is not:
Ms Carrasquilla did not know the reason she was asked to resign
In that situation you wait to be fired.
Non story based on pure speculation and heresay. BBC are shit.
She was asked to resign, or would be fired. Same thing IMO
Edukator
BBC are shit
I'm not sure I agree. "sh*t" in my opinion is comparing Macron to Marie Antoinette for supposedly "hiding" his £2000 watch.
Hell, Sunak's slippers cost more than that.😉
Pic of today's turd roll:

She was asked to resign, or would be fired. Same thing IMO
Not at all the same, if you've done nothing wrong you wait to be fired. We know only one aspect of an emplyer/employee relationship which the employee has chosen to publicise. We know nothing of the bigger picture, whether there were other issues etc. Fact is she could have brazened it out and it would have done her no harm. If the statue was indeed the only reason for being asked to resign it would have been worth a fight.
Maybe it's my cultural references but people in my part of the world don't just resign when asked, they get a doctors note, lodge a coplaint with the police for harrassment and raise the proverbial digit at their employer until a suitable sum is proposed. The last head of Madame's school got a sizeable sum despite failing in the job on every level.

Unless, of course, you don’t want it on your employment record that you were fired.

That would be really helpful and a great insight, if it wasn’t for the fact that you’re in France and the article was about the USA. Hardly comparing apples to apples, is it?
@Edukator you're in a civilised country where the workers have rights, this is Florida...
I'm guessing resign will allow her to keep any pension and allow her to leave on a set date as opposed to off you f***.
The story is weak though, I'd agree with that, too much speculation and light on facts. BBC journalism has been hollowed out.
Cool story bro.
A different thing happened in a different country with different laws and culture, so it’s the same.
It’s not just the US, it’s Florida, a place my American colleague recently described to me as a “backward sh*thole”.
I struggle to imagine anyone in France getting upset because their kid had seen a Michelangelo’s David sized winkie!
Ed, you might like to read this and think again about whether she was fired or resigned
Barney Bishop III: Well, like all the reporters I’ve talked to today, the premise that you’re operating from is incorrect. We didn’t remove her. She resigned. She’s an at-will employee by contract, as are all our teachers. I went to her last week and offered her two letters. One was a voluntary resignation, and another a letter that said if she decided not to resign, I was going to ask the board to terminate her without cause. Without cause. We have the right to do that under the contract.
Funny story...
Mid 2000s, The school I taught at got some butterflies chrysalis in a big hanger thing for the kids to see develop. Painted Ladies...
In class little Jack says Mr X what what will they look like when they hatch?
Mr X says why don't we look on our wonderful new interactive white board and see?
🤣Yeh it wasn't my brightest moment! Obviously there weren't the safety filters back then there should be. They got a glimpse of painted Ladies (tattooed and with atleast some clothes on), and they weren't butterflies, before I quickly closed the screen 🤣
There were a few shocked faces and giggles for the second it was on and that was that.
Mr X says... I'll tell you what I'll have a look over lunch and find you some good photos of the butterlfies 🤣
^^ Employment law truly sucks in the US it would seem.
Employees in the States have so few rights and we're following suit over here. So little fuss when a business can terminate your contract with little or no reason went from 12months to 24months. The French would have burned parliament to the ground and saved us how many billions in restoring Westminster...
Quit now & keep your pension and the x months pay until the end of your contract or we sack you and you get nothing... Most people would quit.
Totally bonkers situation regardless.

Shaken and stirred?
Edit - image fail
Gobsmacked by this - the whole concept that any image of a naked person is porn is just so ****ed up to me. It should be a prompt for discussion, not hidden away.

Has anyone ever used the statue of David for a bit of self relief?
That's got to be the definition of a tough ****.
A statue of the body is porn?
Mind you, this is the country who voted Trump in, have a really weird thing with guns and some of the most unjust differences between rich and poor in the world.
*Shrugs*
Florida, where ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is a State policy guidebook. Along with a bunch of other states.
If you visit the V&A you can see their plaster cast of David, near perfect. Sometimes on display they also have the plaster fig leaf they had to make after Queen Victoria saw his knob. It's nice to see that Florida has reached the level of a repressed 1800s monarch

And you're in the Uk so of no more relevance yet someone thought it worth starting a thread. A Florida man thread already exists because well, their behaviour is judged sufficiently bizarre by UK standards that's it worth a thread so we can point and laugh at them, which I have nothing against because pointing out that stupid is stupid is perfectly acceptable.
And since I last posted I note more people have misrepresented the situation in a very BBC like way with assertions that aren't in very limited info made public. Which is itself based on one side of a story with huge assumptions and leaps into speculation.
See the Ofsted thread or any teaching thread for the uncomfortable lot of many UK teachers. I was one, it was shit, I walked. My sister lasted until recently. I don't regard my own departure as much of loss to the system but when teachers of the quality of my sister go work in a pub instead the system has a big problem.
Rather than laugh at Florida look in the mirror.
Has anyone ever used the statue of David for a bit of self relief?
I've always had relief that whilst my physique is not on par with David, other parts of my anatomy at least compare favourably 😀
i’m not sure that the problem being pointed out in florida is the same as the problem with teaching in the uk. if anything posters in this thread, like in the ofsted thread, are sympathetic to the situation teachers in the uk are in.
this story is about a parent, not about a teacher.
Hiding a watch in plain sight judging by the photo.
And I just google image searched painted ladies, all it brought back were pictures of houses in San Francisco.
Maximum disappointment.

Interesting thing I only discovered recently. Classical-era Europe considered a large penis to be the mark of a barbarian, whereas having a small willy was desirable as its owner would have been thought of as being more intellectual. Hence the anatomy of the artwork back then.
Given that David fought Goliath (the giant), why is the statue 17ft tall?
whereas having a small willy was desirable as its owner would have been thought of as being more intellectual.
I must be a genius!
Classical-era Europe considered a large penis to be the mark of a barbarian
It sounds a bit racist to me but it might explain why Greek and Roman gentlemen didn't see Barbarians in a favourable light. I have no idea about the Greek or Roman ladies though.
I guess that it might also explain why Centaur always appears to be lacking any genitalia - it would be reasonable to expect Centaur to be hung like a horse.
It sounds a bit racist to me
Ernie, with all due respect, "it's raining outside" sounds a bit racist to you.

I see what you did there. 😁

Well perhaps it wasn't due to racism but the Barbarians never seemed to get a sympathetic press in Classical-era Europe.
If rumours circulated that they were impressively well endowed it would certainly help to explain why ancient Greeks and Romans celebrated walnut whip resembling genitalia. And why Greek ladies alledgedly seemed less interested in men.
It doesn't explain the average size of an Italian penis at the time of Michelangelo though.
Although it might explain why some Italian men feel the need to constantly touch their crotches - not so much warding off bad luck, more a case of checking up on their tiny penises!
more a case of checking up on their tiny penises!
Racist. Reported.

Walnut whips are massive! Aren't they? 😟
Only if you have tiny hands the size of Donald Trump's.

I am an eighth Italian, my great grandmother was a lady from Genoa called Innocenti Bruno, so I claim the right of self-deprecation.
Sounds like the Floridians don't know the difference between a 'grower' and a 'shower' heheheh

Mine grew 24% when I looked at Michaelangelo's statue of David's Cock And Balls And Really Nice Arse.
