Words that are absolutely guaranteed never, ever to enter my head
Words that are absolutely guaranteed never, ever to enter my head
And you call yourself a Northerner?
I used to LOVE my mum's Braised Liver and Onions . . . until one unfortunate day when, by co-incidence, we did a liver dissection in A-level Biology.
Liver, onions, mushrooms, thick gravy
win
Yes please.
That's a good shout. I think I'll get some for later in the week.
No thanks.
Supper? You mean dinner?
I think he actually meant tea PP
chicken livers on toast yeah buddy. there is a nice spanish recipe with liver and jamon and paprika too. well nice.
they are off course essential in a good ragu sause as well, but we all know that dont we..! enjoy OP!
sausage liver chips gravy buttered warburtons. tea.
Breakfast is at breakfast time.
Dinner is always at noon.
Tea is when Pointless has just finished (to miss the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation's 6PM publicity announcement)
Supper is just before you go to bed, but don't eat cheese or you won't sleep.
Supper can mean a light meal before bed. But in some parts of the country it's interchangeable with Dinner (or even tea) which is an evening meal.
Nandos chicken livers is probably my favourite thing to eat ever!
Howver that liver my mum used to cook with onions (I assume its cows liver) is bloody horrible.
Dinner is always at noon.
No, that's lunch
Am I really the first to say it sounds offal?
Dinner is obviously at tea time.
Had chicken liver jalfrezi on Friday. Was fabulous. Great texture.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner/supper*
*depending on who I’m dining with.
For me it’s a yes to liver.
I thought supper had to be cheese based?
Mealtime related chaos and confusion reigns.
My work here is done.
Sounds like an offaly good idea to me. Not had it for years.
Which animals liver is best?
Breakfast, lunch, dinner/supper
What happened to tea time?
I thought supper had to be cheese based?
Well yes unless you are on the way home from the pub, then Article kebab is triggered.
I tend to be a lone liver eater, so calves liver is my special treat when I'm on my own.
Liver used to be my favourite meat when I was a kid. Then we didn't have it for a while. Then I found out what it was...
Never had it since.
Which is a shame really, because it's very tasty.
Thats a really weird special treat to have when you're in on your own slowoldman.
Mine's coke and hookers
Colp has it, but with the addition of crispy bacon.
Supper is not a meal, its an evening snack usually before bedtime if you're the civilised sort that has your main meal around 17:30 and not later in the evening like 20:00 or later, as you're not going to have the munchies at bed time. Supper normally consists of something like a crumpet, ideally with loads of butter and Marmite.
For me dinner is a posh or more formal event, so lunch for lunch, tea for evening meal, supper if I feel like it. But if i'm going out or having people around and making a more formal big deal its a dinner whether its a lunch dinner or evening dinner. The time matters not, there is no right time for dinner time.
For me dinner is a posh or more formal event
The nod you give when 'tea' becomes 'dinner'.....?.....

I used to think liver was at the bottom of the food chain until someone tried to introduce me to tripe.
One of the advantages of being veggie now is not having to feel conflicted about not eating the whole animal anymore.

That sounds tasty! Wonder if I can get my other half to eat it without realising what it is? She'd probably love that meal, until I mention the word.... "Liver". She eats Haggis FFS!! How can liver be "worse" than that??
I used to think liver was at the bottom of the food chain until someone tried to introduce me to tripe.
Now there is one thing I didn't get at home - due largely to it's place in my father's upbringing.
One of my favourites! Has to be liver, onions, bacon, thick gravy and mash....glass of red.
That mash would have like half a tub of butter in too.
Dust in seasoned flour, flash fry, and serve with bacon, mash and onion gravy. Food of the gods.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner/supper
Looking around at some of my colleagues it's more like 1st Breakfast, 2nd Breakfast, Something to tide you over until lunchtime, Lunch, Something on the way home to last you 'till dinner, Dinner, Supper.
My dad used to say "I just need 4 square meals a day and a bit of supper".
In the interests of research, and in an attempt to banish the horrorble memory of eating vile liver/shoe leather concoctions as a kid, I'm going to try liver again. This evening I'll be cooking the liver, bacon and onion gravy, Hairy Bikers recipe Rocketman linked to
Will I die?
It's a taste sensation 🙂
Lamb's liver - food of the gods, fried dry with onions and some thyme. Not overcooked, eaten hot reminds me of old town Thesoloniki, eaten cold as a meze with beer takes me right back to the Olympiad bar in Kadikoy, Istanbul.
Pig's liver - okay I guess, as long as I keep the phrase 'pig's liver' out of my head whilst eating. They taste pretty similar tbf.
it's "luncheon", not "lunch", you peasants
perhaps it'd help to think of it as a contraction of "love truncheon", which of course would make a more enticing meal than ****ing liver
Dried salted liver mmmmmm ! A cultured man's biltong.
scaredypants I'm not dredging my love truncheon in flour and frying it with onions for anyone.
just to update - it was f kin delish !
Don’t forget some chunky bread and butter to mop the plate afterwards
binners
This evening I’ll be cooking the liver, bacon and onion gravy
Well? Did you enjoy it?
Nowt wrong with it tbh, bit rich for me but would be the last to criticise since I also eat haggis.
Tripe is just the food of sheer desperation.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper.
Tea time is mid morning and mid afternoon, and is for hot beverages.
Seared liver, nice n pink in the middle, with chips and bone marrow gravy. Ooft.
We haven’t covered “afters” yet, which are clearly after tea/dinner.
Never heard of it. Is it leftovers, or pudding?
Well.... I’m still alive!
And that wasn’t bad! Quite enjoyed it. It’s my first time cooking it though, so I played safe and I reckon I overcooked it a bit. It was cooked through, but not pink.
Next time I’ll go a bit easier on the flash frying. But I’ll definitely do it again. It’s banished my demons of eating liver 😀
Should I look at it the same way as cooking steak? Get the pan hotter than the surface of the sun, then give it less time than you think you should?
I’d just like to add that the liver and onions was for my tea earlier. Now I’m going to have ‘supper’.
Cheese, obviously. 😀
Never heard of it. Is it leftovers, or pudding?
As in, "Mum, what's for afters?"
Darn sarf I believe they call it dessert?
Bawk.
My grandmother used to fry herself a liver as a superspecial treat and make that Hannibal Lecter sound whilst devouring it. I think she may have been a witch!
That hairy bikers recipe is awesome.... We had it last week. I'm not normally a fan of liver, but Mrs Scape is, and every so often I'll put up with it. That's changed my mind completely.
