An ex-relative had taken up road cycling in the summer, really got into it, built up from nothing to doing 50 milers. Saw him this morning, and asked how the cycling was going.
His response, 'not into it much now, there seem to be loads of other people riding bikes now.....'
Do these other bicyclers somehow prevent his pleasure in some odd manner? Can some people only enjoy things that they perceive to be exclusive? Which suggests the activity is secondary...
I think you are coming at this wrong. It is probably more the fact the person enjoys the open roads and less people in the way rather than missing the exclusivity of it all.
Or maybe I am coming at it the wrong way.

He lives close to a network of remote country lanes and B roads with great riding rather than somewhere like that London...
I think that is the case actually mate.
Look at the way people buy their bikes on here... Specialized/Kona/Trek etc often get dismissed out of hand because they are popular, when in fact they are bloody good bikes.
The more people the better I reckon. It inevitably means more people to add to my ever increasing "scalp" tally chart.
what bike did he have? does he want it rehomed?
Is it not exclusive - well sod it then I'm off to find a new passtime!
