All Christmas/New Year I had stinking man flu (women, you don't appreciate how bad it is). All through January and the start of Feb, was still blowing my nose to the point it was bleeding and scabbing, albeit the cold symptoms had gone.

Roll on last weekend, boom - it's back with a venegeance. Razor blades in my throat, banging headache, feeling sick and lethargic, the occassional feverish feeling, pints of snot, loss of taste and smell for a day or two, blisters and skin peeling off the roof of my mouth. When it started, I had a plasticcy smell/sensation up my nose and I seem to think I might associate that with previous cases of Covid

It was actually preceded by a really nasty bout of ectopic heartbeats that I've mentioned in another thread - maybe linked., maybe a co-incidence?

Anyway, I know MTFU etc

Anyone else? Just a really nasty cold going about, or the latest strain of something Chinese? Heard quite a few people with similar.

Mrs STR is currently lay on the sofa feeling sorry for her self - I'm pretty much over it, but obviously given it her

One appeared out of the blue two weeks ago. Knocked me for six.  Feeling at 80% now but cough is still really bad and out of breath very easily. I think its now bronchitis.

That does sound very Covid like, to be fair, though there seems to be a lot of assorted nasty bugs going around. For the first time I've had a few friends in their 50s with bronchitis and pneumonia, a lot of people really quite poorly.

Gosh, I've had this, and I'm lucky in that I seldom get ill. Even tried my outdoor swim last week as a kill or cure and I'm only just alive. Just cannot get rid of it.

Even an intense Zwift ride made me feel worse.

It's the longest period of time I've spent watching TV on the sofa for years.

Covid sounds plausible to me, especially as far as I am aware you are not keen to have regular boosters.

Razor blades in throat sounds very much like my last known covid bout almost 2.5 years ago.

Started with lethargic legs, that I mistook for overkeen last minute fitness boost attempt before a holiday. Then the throat, then a head cold, only once we got back home from hol I thought maybe it was covid and gave instant positives for over two weeks.

Sounds exactly like the same thing I've had through the end of December until now.

Never feeling really ill but always taking a step back whenever i've tried to physically push my self.

Feels like a milder longer lasting version of the twice I've tested positive for covid in the past.

I seemed to have a permanent head ache that lasted for almost two months along with the dodgy breathing/ saw throat/ cough that made me want to spew and heart rate all over the place.

I'm slowly pulling out of it now thankfully.

We still have the tests in work (they've just about expired tbh) and quite a few people have tested positive lately.

I had covid back in November, including a couple of days off work which is pretty much unheard of for me, was just about recovering before Christmas when the cold/flu/everything hit me... the flu symptoms cleared up after maybe 3 weeks but left me exhausted all the time. It's only this last week I've been feeling I can do much more than go to work and crash out when I get home.

might get back on Zwift this evening - there's a series of workouts on there for pregnant women which I find very useful for forcing me to take it easy while still keeping the legs spinning (although when I last used them back in December, I had to turn even those down by 10% to start with!)

It's been pretty crappy for months 🙁

I'm curious, but why did you think 'an intense Zwift ride' when you're unwell would make you feel anything other than worse? I get that turning your legs over gently might not be a bad thing, but in all seriousness, there's enough evidence around viral infections and their impact on the heart that more intense stuff seems like a bad idea - google 'myocarditis'.

Indeed - I've been itching to get out on the ebike for a gentle ride, but with the recent fluttery ticker and the fact that this cold/virus/covid/whatever seems to have kept off my chest for now (unusual for me), I've resisted - even though I now feel fine, just snotty. Guarantee if I went out in the cold air for even some mild exercise I'd be coughing a lung up the next day

Yeah. Horrendous flu over Christmas which was really bad for a good week (night sweats, fever, painful cough) which took until mid January to tail off.

About the start of this month the cough came back, mostly at night time and not as bad, which hung around for about a week as well - but no other symptoms. I suspect with that I just irritated my lungs from a lot of running in cold weather with the second bout but I'm not sure if that's even a thing.

All seems to be gone now thank goodness.

I've had similar too, sudden sore through and minor cough for about 4/5 days before it hit me like a truck. Was in bed for 2 days with a high temp and severe cold. That was about 3 weeks ago and I've not fully shaken it, still got a lot of snot and am tired all the time.

I'm just blaming a lack of warm weather now, need some sun on my skin asap.

I definitely had a high strength cold recently, return trip from France I started to cough a little, felt like it was coming the next day, come Monday I was streaming, Tue-Thu off work and on the Thursday after walking the dog in the morning went back to bed, wife came home at lunch and it still took me another hour to actually get up. Taste and smell were gone for 10-12 days, negative covid test, then as it started to go I got snotty again for the rest of that week. Think I'm over it now, but it was a significant cold, the worst I've had for a few years, even the times I had Covid were pretty mild and nothing compared to this. I had destroyed myself on the pistes that week too though, lots of miles and seep was rubbish (because of altitude more than drinking though).

My wife as usual seems to have dodged it entirely.

Meh, going thru a good dose of this with Mrs DoD - Cough, flu ,indigestion lots of snottinesses and high temperatures.

Never seen the dog move so fast as my body decided to do an emergency purge yesterday morning, I did feel a lot better although  did feel guilty over nearly being sick over the dog.

I had Covid (probably) in mid December, thought I was getting a bit of fitness back by mid Jan then was struck down by another few days with no specific symptoms other than feeling lousy, then the cough started and has never really gone away since. I was managing a couple of gentle rides a week until last week when the non specific illness came back and the cough went up to 11. Actually managed to see a gp, nothing obvious but referred for other tests to eliminate anything nasty. Still just feeling tired and unwell - and still coughing.

Thankfully I rarely get colds and when I do they are invariably very mild and gone in about 48 hours or less. This has not always been the case, especially when I used to be a heavy smoker.

However I take three things at the very first sign of a cold which I am convinced explains my resilience to colds. Those are Vick's First Defence, echinacea, and zinc.

I don't know which of those three things contains the active ingredient which makes the difference or whether indeed all three do, but I have long suspected that what makes the most difference is First Defence. It is certainly the one which has the most evidence to back its claimed effectiveness.

I cannot emphasize enough that they must be taken at the very first signs of a cold when the symptoms are barely noticeable, so you must have all three available at home. There is no point taking them the next day.

In the case of echinacea and zinc I take about double the recommended dose for the first couple of days, I never take them on a permanent daily basis.

Unless there is a specific reason I don't believe in taking any supplement, apart from vitamin D - especially between October and March.
