Can anyone recommend holiday locations or even specific accommodation suited to taking a 6 month old on holiday to Italy in September for 1 week to 10 days?
We're thinking of Lake Como or Lake Garda area and ideally I'd like some mountain biking trails nearby. I would be looking to hire a bike (or even an e-bike to get some easy elevation) rather than taking mine. Probably only do a day or 2 of this.
Our ideal accommodation would be self catering with some places to eat nearby and shops to buy food. We will likely hire a car so shops don't need to be too close.
We've been to Lake Como and Lake Garda before at that time of year, the weather can be cooler so locations further south might be better.
If Garda and intending to bike, then go to the North end of the lake. Torbole is the ideal location for this. Hire/demo a bike from the Liteville shop in Torbole (disclosure: I demo'd from there and ended up buying two, so I'm biased) other hire shops also available in the town.
Rather than e-bike, use the uplift vans that run from Torbole. Only need to book day before or on the day.
Guiding is not absolutely necessary but will certainly get you the most out of a limited time. An English contact to start the ball rolling re bikes, uplifts and guiding is Michael, contact via his website http://rebbens.com/
Another location further South that balances biking with Family hols - how about Finale Ligure?
Check with Collets - we took our (older) kids to the Dolomites with them last Summer.
If I went back, I'd think about their self catered apartments.
What sold it for us was that, apart from sorting out our own flights, we didn't have to worry about anything.
We stayed in Alta Badia and there are some great mountain top play parks for the kids. There's a combined bus + lift pass too. Not cheap, but makes it hassle free.

Food was more German than Italian there! And we can recommend Lufthansa as being very child friendly.
We went round by lake iseo last year. It's like the others, but smaller and quieter. Depends what you want to do as activities though to an extent.
Thanks for replies. Found something in Riva del Garda, but the MTB tour centre seems to be Torbole. Is it easy enough to get between the two without a car? Might now go in August for better weather
No holiday / holiday location on earth is suited to a 6 month old baby.
You can get over to torbole by bike easy enough, it's not far.
There's bike tours advisor in Riva too

Don’t worry Torbole is less than 5 minutes up the road from Riva and to ride it is even easier riding with a bike lane along the lake.

Austrian not German, it's the South Tyrol (but don't mention that in Verona).
How Austrian is Riva del Garda?
Should I greet people in German or Italian? My German is stronger than my Italian, but overall I think i'm best at English

I did have one lunch where I ate potato pie with sauerkraut... while drinking german beer out of a boot shaped glass... with non-stop oompah music playing in the restaurant.... Kids got wurst + chips
Pizza places were shut for the summer!
Used to do this when young, well London to the south of France.
Make sure to your ac works. That was a luxury in the 80s and it truly sucked when it's was hot.
Audio books are a winner. Hours can drift by with a well-chosen book on and the sun shining.
Take one for the team and drive all night. One tired dad is far easier to cope with than an irritable family!
I'd do one biggish meal stop and run around. Big stint before, massive night one after, arrive in the morning.
Great advice above about having toll cash/payment all to hand. This should be the only stopping done overnight if you can cope with the that!
Good luck, I always enjoyed the big family trips away!
